• Something not working? You can now tell me from inside the app — from the Home screen, from About, or right where a save or an export has just failed. Write a line about what happened and it comes to me with the app version and the phone model attached, so I can find it. Your photo, your video and the words on your picture are not sent, and there is no sign-in. • Write a note with no signal and it waits, then sends itself next time you open the app. • Behind or in front of your subject is now one tap on the main screen. It used to be two taps into a panel, which meant the app's whole trick was hidden. • Move your text in front because the cutout looked wrong, and Behindr now offers to open Touch Up so you can tidy the edges by hand.

• Fixed video exports freezing a few seconds in. Behindr was waiting on the picture and the sound to line up in a way that could never finish; it now feeds the soundtrack ahead of the video so the export runs to the end. • Saving a video now shows which stage it has reached, and checks the finished file before telling you it worked. • If an export ever does get stuck, it now stops with a message instead of sitting on a frozen percentage.

• Fixed video saves stopping part-way with nothing to show for it. Behindr now measures how much memory your iPhone actually has free and sizes the export to match, instead of always reaching for the largest. • The editing preview now lets go of its own memory while a video is being made, leaving more room for the render to finish.

• A free trial and a paid subscription are now counted separately, so the app can tell how many people go on to subscribe. • Fixed a pale halo that could appear around dark subjects — hair and dark clothing now cut out cleanly against bright backgrounds. • The video preview plays about twice as smoothly while you edit. • Behindr now asks for a rating after a save that worked, and far less often.

Behindr 1.5 — five looks that redraw the picture, and your first day without the watermark, free. The looks strip used to do colour: black and white, dim, vignette. Five new ones actually redraw the photo — Cartoon, Anime, Comic, Sketch and Paint — so a plain snap becomes something worth posting before you have typed a word on it. They work on video exports too, not only stills. And you can now choose which half of the picture a look lands on. Put a sketch behind a normal-looking person, or leave the background real and turn the person into a cartoon. It is one toggle above the strip. Your first 24 hours of saving without the watermark are free. You start it yourself, at a save, and while it runs there is no limit on how many photos or videos you keep. No purchase and no account. It is the paid feature itself rather than a preview of it, so you can decide with the finished pictures already in front of you. There is now more than one way to keep it. Behindr Pro comes as a weekly or a monthly plan, each starting with a 3-day free trial, alongside the one-time purchase that was always there. Every one of them removes the watermark and unlocks every look, with a new look pack added each month. Also new: • Video plays inside the editor. There is a play button and a scrubber under the picture, and what you see moving is the real thing — your words behind the person, with the look on it — so you know before you save instead of after. • Thirteen more fonts and ten more ready-made styles, so the style row is worth scrolling now. • A short intro the first time you open the app, explaining the one thing that is not obvious: pick a photo with a clear subject. • Behindr tells you when there is a newer version, instead of leaving you on an old one wondering why something is missing. • The dice gives you genuinely different ideas when you roll again. It used to be able to hand back the same set you had just turned down. Fixed: • Long words can no longer run off the edge of the picture. A word with a highlight box or an outline on it was being measured without them, so it could end up cut off at both sides at once. • Videos that failed to save now say why — out of space, for instance — instead of one message that covered everything. Saving also keeps going if you get a call or the screen locks part way through. • The update check works on mobile data. It was quietly skipping anyone not on Wi-Fi — which was everyone it was most meant to help. • VoiceOver reads the cards on the ideas feed properly. It was reading out a line of internal code to the one person who had nothing else to go on.

Behindr 1.3 — the word finally moves the way you expect it to. Moving text used to feel wrong. Pinching only ever changed the size and angle, so the word slid out from under your fingers the moment you turned it or grabbed it off-centre. Now whatever is under your fingers stays under your fingers, however you twist or drag it — the same way it works in the apps you already use. Fixed the other thing people hit on their very first photo: sometimes the text landed completely behind the subject, so it looked like nothing had happened at all. Behindr now checks how much of the word is actually visible and puts it somewhere you can see it — and it will never drop your text across somebody's face. Also new: • Choose which word sits on top when they overlap. • Tap the dice for a set of ready-made ideas for the photo you just loaded, so there's something to react to instead of a blank canvas. • Start from a finished look instead of an empty screen. • Name and delete your saved pictures from the home screen. • Draw round the bit you want to fix with a lasso, as well as brushing it. • Share anonymous usage counts — a new switch in About Behindr, on by default, that tells us which screens people get stuck on. No account, no ID, and never anything about your photos. Turn it off any time. Fixed: • Text colour on light backgrounds is readable now — the old pink failed contrast on white. • The tap you feel when text snaps to the centre line actually arrives. • Posting straight to a story from the share sheet is no longer treated as if you'd given up half way.

Behindr 1.2 — a home screen, and a lot more say over how the words sit. New: • A home screen with your drafts and recent work, so you can pick up where you left off. • Share straight from Photos: pick a photo, tap Share, choose Behindr. • Save a style you like and reuse it on the next photo. Up to 20. • Stack the same word down the photo without typing it five times. • Choose the shape before you start — original, square, 4:5, or 9:16 full screen. • Pick a background look by looking at it: a row of live previews instead of a list of names. • Pull a colour straight out of your photo by dragging on it. • Light or dark. Behindr follows your phone, or you can pick one. • Video edits can be saved as drafts now. • Behindr speaks German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Chinese. • Full iPad layouts. Fixed: • Video cutouts. The subject is no longer faded out part-way through, and the pale halo around hair is gone. • Dark hair against a dark background no longer shows a light fringe. • The canvas no longer jumps when the layout changes. • Drafts, undo and export are all steadier. • The Save button is readable, and it's clearer where your photo went.

Fixed a bug where the keyboard could cover your photo after typing with no way to get rid of it. There's now a Done button above the keyboard, and swiping down on the panel dismisses it too. The editing panel also shrinks while you type, so you can watch the words land on your image instead of guessing. Also fixed: • Strokes you paint in Refine are now saved with your draft. Before this, a refine on its own could be lost when you left the editor. • Video exports can be cancelled again once they've started. • The "no clear subject found" notice no longer swallows taps along the bottom of the canvas. • Very small text layers can be tapped and selected again. • Restore Purchase now shows that it's working instead of looking dead. • The App Store is no longer able to hang the app during a purchase. New app icon. On free exports the watermark now sits in the lower middle of the image instead of the corner.
