A master key that only you hold
When you first set up Velo, you receive a set of twelve simple words called a Recovery Phrase. Think of it as the one true key to everything you encrypt. As long as you have those twelve words, you can always unlock your files, even if you lose your phone, switch to a new device, or reset everything from scratch. Velo never stores this phrase on any server and never sends it anywhere. It lives only with you. This also means if you ever lose those twelve words, nobody, including us, can recover your files. That is the tradeoff of real protection with no hidden backdoor.

Because your files are genuinely encrypted, you are never locked into using Velo storage or any single cloud service.
