THE APPLE WATCH Ghost Kit now works on your wrist, and it measures the one thing a phone cannot: you. Your own heart rate is recorded alongside every session, drawn on the same timeline as the audio, the field and the air. See the moment your pulse moved, and check it against what you heard. The watch is also a remote. Start and stop recordings, and mark your own noises, without touching the phone. The phone can lie still in the dark for the whole session, which is the single biggest improvement you can make to a recording. When something registers, your wrist taps, wherever the phone happens to be. Your watch's own accelerometer and barometer join the detector as extra witnesses, in a different place from the phone. Monitoring starts itself when you press record, so the reading is there at the moment worth having it. Nothing reaches the Fitness app. No workout is saved, nothing is added to your rings, and no calorie or distance data is ever collected. IT NOW TELLS YOU WHEN IT IS PROBABLY NOTHING Sounds that arrive alongside a movement of the phone are flagged as probably you, rather than left to look like evidence. There is a new THAT WAS ME button to mark your own noises as they happen, and it works from the watch, so marking a noise no longer makes one. The Sensors screen now names the ordinary cause when there is one: a magnetic case or a nearby laptop, weather moving through, a change of floor, a phone that will not sit still. The screen is no longer held awake while you read or browse, and the sensors sample at half the previous rate. The Proximity screen could stop taking readings entirely and sit on CALIBRATING. Fixed. Sensor traces on playback were drawn at a scale that made real movement invisible. They now scale to what actually happened. Outlined buttons only responded to taps on the letters themselves. All of them are now tappable across their full width. The motion warning could latch on and never clear, leaving the Proximity screen unusable.
