Fitness Hack: Calorie Diary

Photo food log & macro counter

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Say "two rotis and a bowl of daal" and it's logged. Photograph a nutrition label and the numbers come off it. All on your phone, nothing uploaded. Fitness Hack is a calorie counter built around one idea: logging food should take seconds, and the numbers should be honest. Answer a few questions once and the app works out a daily calorie target from the Mifflin-St Jeor equation — the same formula dietitians use. Then just log what you eat and watch the ring. EVERY MEAL, ONE CLEAR NUMBER A single ring shows what's left in your day. Protein, carbs and fat sit underneath. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks are always one tap from adding food. Made a mistake? Tap any entry to fix the amount, move it to another meal, or remove it. Swipe back through past days any time. FOLLOW THE TREND, NOT THE NOISE Your weight can swing more than a kilo overnight from water and salt. That's the number one reason people give up — they do everything right and the scale punishes them for it. Fitness Hack draws a smoothed trend line through your weigh-ins so you see the real direction of travel. Your weekly average and your projected goal date are both read off the trend, not off yesterday's salty dinner. YOUR COOKING, YOUR NUMBERS Generic database entries for home-cooked food are guesses. Every family cooks the same dish differently. Build a recipe from the ingredients that actually went in the pot, enter what the finished dish weighs, and Fitness Hack works out the calories per 100 g and per serving. Save it once, log it in one tap forever after. Because it divides by the cooked weight, it correctly accounts for the water that curries and stews lose — which is exactly what generic entries get wrong. FOOD FROM EVERYWHERE Hundreds of foods are built in and work with no internet: rice, bread, eggs and chicken, but also biryani, daal, roti, sushi, ramen, pho, pad thai, tacos, burritos, lasagne, shakshuka, tagine and jollof rice. Search understands the words you actually use. Type "anda", "chawal", "keema", "aloo", "arroz" or "huevo" and you'll find the right food. For packaged food, search the Open Food Facts database or scan the barcode with your camera. THREE WAYS TO LOG WITHOUT TYPING Say it: tell the app "two rotis and a bowl of daal" — or ask Siri without opening it at all — and each food is found and logged at a sensible portion. Photograph it: point the camera at your plate for suggested matches, or at the nutrition label on a packet to lift the numbers straight off it. Describe it: search for "something light with chicken" and get sensible matches instead of nothing. All of it runs on your iPhone. Photos are never uploaded and never saved. NO PORK, NO ALCOHOL Products containing pork or alcohol are filtered out everywhere in the app, including barcode scans and online search. YOUR DATA STAYS ON YOUR IPHONE No account. No sign-up. No servers. Nothing is uploaded, ever. Export your whole diary to CSV whenever you want it. ALSO INCLUDED • Kilograms or pounds, centimetres or feet — switch any time • A safety floor that refuses to set a dangerously low calorie target • Warnings if you set a goal weight below a healthy range • Custom foods for anything not in the database • Favourites and recents, so daily foods are two taps away • Full dark mode • Works on iPhone and iPad Fitness Hack has no ads, no subscription nags and no social feed. It's a food diary that respects your time and your privacy.

SAY WHAT YOU ATE Tell Fitness Hack "two rotis and a bowl of daal" and it finds each food, picks a sensible portion and logs the lot. Ask Siri and you don't have to open the app at all. Portions start at each food's usual serving and you can change any of them before saving. The calories always come from the food list — never invented from what you said. PHOTOGRAPH A NUTRITION LABEL Point the camera at the label on a packet and the numbers come off it. They're converted to per 100 g only when the serving weight is actually printed. If it isn't there, the fields stay blank rather than guess. SHARPER MEAL PHOTOS On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, a photo of your plate is now read by a much better on-device model. Everything still happens on your phone: the photo isn't uploaded and isn't saved. Older iPhones keep the previous recogniser and keep working offline. SEARCH BY DESCRIPTION Look for "something light with chicken" or "the rice dish with yoghurt" and you'll get sensible matches instead of nothing. YOUR WEEK, IN A LINE The diary now opens with a short note on how the week has actually gone, written on your phone from your own numbers. ALSO • The app has a feel now. Logging food, saving a weigh-in and passing your target each have their own haptic. • A dark and a tinted app icon, so the Home Screen looks right in every mode. • Protein, carbs and fat now show how far past target you've gone, the same way the calorie ring does. • The tab bar picks up the new system look on iOS 26 and later. • Fixed: if the app couldn't open its storage on launch it showed nothing at all. It now explains what happened and lets you retry — your data was never at risk.
