Fixes to the Drafts folder. Closing a draft no longer throws it away. The X at the top of the composer was wired to Discard, so opening a saved draft to re-read it and then closing it deleted it. X and Esc now close the draft and keep it; the Discard button is still there for when you mean it. Draft rows take the same swipe-to-delete as the rest of your mail, and a swipe asks first — discarding a draft is permanent, where a deleted message goes to Trash. Reopening a draft keeps the account and sending address it was written with, so there is no longer error text across the title, and a saved reply stays in its conversation.

Send from any address your account owns. A mail account used to mean a single address. If you have send-as aliases on a Gmail account — support@, billing@, an address on your own domain — Pimkin now finds them and lets you choose which one a message goes out as. The From row picks an address, not just an account. Replies come from the address the mail was sent to, so a message to support@ is answered from support@. And replying to all no longer leaves one of your own addresses among the recipients.

Swiping mail away no longer leaves a note behind. Archiving or deleting with a swipe raised a confirmation that stayed on screen for ten seconds. Clear a handful of messages one after another and those confirmations stacked into a column across the bottom of the screen — covering the very rows you were still swiping. The row leaving the list is the confirmation now. Both Archive and Trash are folders you can open if you want something back. There is also a new way to check for mail. Pulling down on the message list only ever re-read what the server had already collected; it could not ask your provider to go and look. Now it does, and there is a Sync button as well.

Notifications on your phone no longer pile up. Pimkin was telling you about new mail twice: once from the server, and once from the app itself, which raised a separate notification for every individual message. Only the first kind could replace the one before it, so the second kind stacked up — and nothing was able to take one back down again. Now there is one notification, and it clears itself once the message it announced has been deleted, read, or moved out of your Inbox — including when you did that on your computer or another device. Notifications already sitting in Notification Centre from before this update need clearing by hand once.

A thread can be one row now. Settings → Mail → Message list has a new grouping choice. Leave it on Messages and your list is exactly what it was. Switch to Conversations and every message in a thread collapses into a single row showing the most recent one, with a count of how many it stands for. The grouping follows the mailbox you are looking at, so an Inbox row counts only that thread's Inbox messages — replies you sent, and messages you moved to Trash, stay out of the count instead of appearing from folders you are not viewing. It works offline, and the unified views group too. Off by default; your list is unchanged until you choose otherwise.

One email now raises one notification. If you had reinstalled Pimkin, or moved between a beta build and the App Store version, your phone could end up registered more than once and show a separate banner for each. It doesn't any more.
