SEE WHICH PHOTOS YOU HAVE ALREADY LIKED The heart on a photo in the timeline now says whether the like is yours. Filled and red when you are one of the people who liked it, an outline when you are not — so you can tell at a glance, without opening the post. EDITING A SHARED PHOTO NO LONGER CLOSES SCATTO Share a photo into Scatto, crop it, tap Save — and the app would disappear, back to where you shared from, with nothing saved. The editor was working at full resolution inside a part of the app held to a much smaller memory budget than the app itself, and it was being shut down for it. ALSO IN THIS RELEASE • The dot beside an account clears when you leave the account you have just read, rather than a couple of minutes later. • The "Liked" confirmation draws its heart in the same red as every other heart in the app. • Pictures in comments are shown whole instead of cropped to a strip, and a video or GIF in a comment now plays instead of sitting there as a grey box. • Private messages moved out of Experimental, to Settings ▸ Notifications, under Follow requests.

NINE MORE PLAYFUL FILTERS Aerochrome turns leaves scarlet the way colour-infrared film did. Riso prints in two inks slightly out of register. Zeitung is newsprint. Kleinbild mounts the photo in a strip of 35mm, sprocket holes and all, with a frame number you write yourself. Plus Cyanotypie, Comic, 3D, Thermal and Miniatur. For video there is now Super 8 B&W: grainier, contrastier, loose in the gate, and it slips a sprocket now and then. Filters live in Settings ▸ Media settings. A SINGLE COLUMN ON IPAD The Timeline layout setting was on the iPad's settings screen without doing anything — the iPad was drawn as a grid whichever option was chosen. Both layouts now work on both devices. The iPad still opens on the grid. WHICH ACCOUNT HAS SOMETHING WAITING With more than one account signed in, a dot on your avatar means the news is on one of the others, and the switcher marks which. No more visiting each account to find out where something is. DETAILS ON THE POST • Post details say who could see a post: public, unlisted, followers only or direct. SIGNING IN TO A NEW SERVER Signing in to a new server survives its login redirect. A browser with no session for the instance never reached the Allow button — which is where everybody making their first account was standing. When an attempt comes back empty, Scatto now opens the server's own login page and tries again. FIXES • A followers list no longer fails when someone in it has moved servers. It broke on scrolling rather than on opening, because the first few entries rarely contain one. • The corners of the crop rectangle are easier to grab. • A message notification opened while a different account is active now says so and offers to switch, instead of showing an empty conversation. • Accepting a follow request stops the notification list announcing it. The close button stays put while you are zoomed into a photo. • The mark beside an account clears once you have read it, instead of staying lit until the next refresh. • A few lines in the collection picker showed in English whatever your language was. • A profile no longer claims to have joined moments ago when the server never said when. • The tour is six steps and opens by saying what "Scatto" means — an Italian word for the click of a shutter. "What's Scatto?" at the foot of Settings replays it.

Collections Pixelfed collections — an ordered set of your own posts under a title and a description — now open in Scatto. Browse your own from the menu and anyone else's from their profile, page through one as a grid, add a post from its own menu or take it out again, rename a collection, change who can see it, or delete it. While writing a post you can pick up to three collections for it to land in the moment it publishes. Collections stay off until you turn them on, in Settings ▸ Experimental. "About collections" there sets out what Pixelfed itself will not do: collections never travel to other servers, so someone following you from elsewhere cannot see them; a new collection is created and published on your server's website rather than in any app; an unpublished collection is visible to you alone, whatever its visibility says; and only your own public or unlisted photos and videos can go into one. PRIVATE MESSAGES Your Pixelfed account has always had a message inbox. Scatto can now open it. • An inbox, plus a separate Requests tab for people you don't follow — so a first message from a stranger never lands in the middle of your conversations. • Send text and photos. Delete your own messages, mute a conversation, and block or report the other person from inside the thread. • Start one from a search, or from the Message button on someone's profile. • Unread conversations are marked, and Messages sits beside the bell. Off by default — switch it on in Settings ▸ Experimental. WHAT MESSAGES ARE, AND ARE NOT • They are not end-to-end encrypted. They live on your instance, and whoever runs it can read them. That is how Pixelfed messages work everywhere; Scatto says it in the conversation instead of leaving you to assume otherwise. • One to one only. Pixelfed has no group threads, so neither does Scatto. • Whether a message rings depends on your server. Instances that support message pushes will notify you; on the rest, Scatto picks messages up when you open it. A message filed as a request stays silent by the server's own rule. THE LAYOUT SWITCH MOVED Single column or grid now lives in Settings ▸ General, between Theme and Menu position — a choice you make once rather than a button you carry everywhere. Its old toolbar slot holds Messages.t messages

ADD A PLACE, THE EASY WAY • Posting now suggests nearby places, read from your photo's own location data — or from your device, if you allow it. Matching happens on your phone against a built-in place list: your coordinates are never uploaded, only the place you pick is published. • Same-named places are told apart by geography, not luck. COMMENTS, GROWN UP • Every comment now has a visible Reply button, in your accent color. • Double-tap a comment to like it. Press and hold for everything else — reply, boost, bookmark, and more. • You can now edit your own comments. SMALL THINGS YOU'LL FEEL • Like counts on posts you're looking at update by themselves. • Notification sounds play softly over your music instead of pausing it. • A slow start now explains what it's doing instead of showing a silent logo — and never keeps you waiting long: your feed appears from the last snapshot while Scatto catches up. • If your server has a hiccup, Scatto tells you, keeps you signed in, and heals itself the moment the server is back.
