Overlay — Web Workspace

Float web apps over fullscreen

Only for Mac

Overlay is a floating web workspace for macOS. Press one shortcut and your web apps appear above whatever you are working on — even a fullscreen app. Press it again and they are gone. It is not a browser replacement and not a browser sidebar. It is a separate native layer for the web work you do over and over: search, documentation, AI assistants, dashboards, email, calendars, internal tools, and reference pages. FLOATS ABOVE EVERYTHING • A native floating panel that sits above normal windows and fullscreen apps • Visible across every Space and desktop • Global shortcut — ⌥Space by default, fully customizable • On multiple displays it appears on the screen your pointer is on • Dock it to a screen edge and slide it back out with the mouse • Auto-hide on focus loss, on mouse-out, or only when you say so • Borderless mode (⌘B) hides all chrome and leaves only the page ARRANGE PANES ANY WAY YOU LIKE This is not a two-pane split. Drag any tab onto any pane and drop it against that pane's top, bottom, left, or right edge. Panes nest freely, so you can build the layout the task actually needs. • Two columns with a full-width row underneath, a 2×2 grid, one wide pane with three stacked beside it — any arrangement you can describe • Drop against the outer edge of the panel to add a full-height column or a full-width row • Every divider is draggable, and the proportions you set are remembered and restored on the next launch • Hover a tab over another one for a moment and the workspace switches to it, so you can drop into a layout that is not on screen yet • Grab a pane by its handle to move it somewhere else, or drop a tab onto its own pane to split it in place • ⌘\ splits the current tab, ⌘⇧L flips a group between rows and columns A REAL WORKSPACE, NOT A POPUP • Every tab is its own native web view, not an iframe — switching tabs never reloads them • Drag to reorder, group related tabs, reopen recently closed tabs • Classic top tab bar, or a vertical side rail on the left or right • Lazy loading: only the visible tab creates a web view, so restoring a large session stays fast A START PAGE AND NOTES, BUILT IN • A native new tab page with a clock, search, quick links, and recent pages • A rich-text notes editor for anything you want to keep beside your work • Or point the home page at any URL instead THE WEB, WIRED INTO macOS • Web notifications become real macOS notifications — click one to jump straight to the tab that sent it • Per-tab controls: mute audio, turn notifications on or off, refresh when you come back • Isolated sessions let you stay signed in to several accounts on the same site at once • Per-tab proxy and User Agent, including custom values • Find in page, a download manager, and page zoom • Screen-capture protection covers the panel, its pop-up windows, and tooltips together • Pop-ups open as native child windows you can merge back into the panel as a tab • Open a local PDF, image, or video next to your web apps DETAILS THAT MAKE IT LIVABLE • Lives in the menu bar with a full main menu, and stays out of your Dock • Your tab tree, active tab, per-display window geometry, and history come back on launch • 8 interface languages, 5 color themes in light and dark • Universal binary for Apple silicon and Intel Requires macOS 14 or later.

Address bar & search autocomplete • As you type in the address bar or the new-tab search box, you get instant matches from your browsing history, ranked by how often you visit each site. • Press Return to open the top match. The completed text stays fully editable and reverts to the current page's address when you click away. • Smoothed out a batch of input rough edges: ⇧⌦ delete, ⌘Z undo, the preferred result when you paste a URL, and the same site no longer flooding the list. Web page error pages • When a page can't load, Overlay now shows a clear error page instead of a blank window. Tab switching • ⌘1–9 jumps straight to a tab by position (⌘9 goes to the last one). • ⌃Tab / ⌃⇧Tab cycles through tabs in most-recently-used order. Extensions • Pin a web extension to the side rail and open it with a single click, just like a pinned extension in Chrome's toolbar. Local files • Local files you've opened reopen automatically after a restart. If a file has moved or can't be found, you can pick it again.
