Scan a folder or a whole volume in seconds. See what is eating your disk as a sortable outline, a breakdown by file type, and a live treemap — all in sync. AppleTree shows you what is actually using your disk. Point it at a folder or a whole volume. It scans natively and in parallel, filling in as it goes rather than blocking on a spinner, then shows the result three ways at once — a size-sorted outline, a flat breakdown by file type, and an interactive treemap. Select or hover in one and the others follow. FAST BY DESIGN A parallel fts(3) traversal walks the filesystem the way the system itself does, streaming results while the scan is still running. Hardlinks and APFS clones are counted once rather than twice, so the totals are honest. THREE VIEWS, ALWAYS IN SYNC • Tree View: a sortable outline: folder, % of parent, size, logical size, files, folders, modified • Treemap: every file as a labeled rectangle, sized by bytes and colored by type, with hover tooltips • Extension Summary: the whole scan flattened by file extension, with percentages and counts CLEAN UP WITHOUT LEAVING THE APP • Delete to Trash from the context menu or Command-Delete, with confirmation on by default • Totals across every view recompute instantly — no rescan • Space bar for Quick Look, exactly like Finder • External changes are noticed live: delete something in Finder and AppleTree keeps up HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT CANNOT SEE A sandboxed app cannot read everything on your disk. When AppleTree skips a folder it tells you why — system-protected, permission denied, or gated behind Full Disk Access — and it only suggests granting access when that would actually change the result. PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION No account, no analytics, no telemetry, and no network connections of any kind. Scan results are held in memory and discarded when the window closes. The only thing written to disk is a handful of preferences. OPEN SOURCE AppleTree is free software under the GNU General Public License v3, and the complete source is on GitHub. You can build it yourself at no cost, for as long as you like. This App Store version is a paid convenience: automatic updates, and it supports continued development. Requires macOS 15 or later.
