SHSAT Prep: Practice Tests
Practice tests, worked answers
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
The SHSAT changed for Fall 2026 — on screen, one-way, no calculator. Start with the free 24-question diagnostic and see where to begin. No account, no data collected.
Most SHSAT prep starts with drilling. That is the fastest way to waste the time you have, because you cannot study everything at once and you do not yet know what is weak.
This app starts with a 24-question diagnostic, about half an hour. It is not a score. It tells you where to begin, and builds a study plan around your test date.
BUILT FOR THE TEST AS IT IS NOW
The SHSAT is computer-adaptive now, and it runs on screen: 50 questions in ELA and 50 in Math, 180 minutes, one question at a time — you can move around inside a reading passage set until you submit it, and nowhere else — and no calculator.
Practice here runs by those same rules — timed, one at a time, no going back, no calculator — with the on-screen tools to work with: highlight a passage, cross out a choice you have ruled out, line numbers to point at. The format itself is a lesson, so nothing on test day is new.
And one of the full-length tests adapts. The Adaptive Practice Test picks what to ask next from how the sitting is going, the way the real exam does, and afterwards tells you the difficulty level you were working at in each section. The other full-length tests are linear: the whole paper is drawn before you start and does not change with your answers. Either way every sitting draws a fresh set of questions to the same blueprint, so a test is worth sitting more than once. Drills and the question bank are not adaptive; you pick those yourself.
WORKED ANSWERS, NOT ANSWER KEYS
Every question shows the method, step by step, and then checks the answer against it. Get one wrong and you find out why, not just which letter you missed.
MADE FOR iPad, INCLUDING APPLE PENCIL
The SHSAT gives you scrap paper and no calculator, so the working is the whole job. On iPad the question sits beside a scratch pad you can write on with Apple Pencil or a finger, and your working stays next to the worked explanation afterwards so you can compare them line by line.
Reading passages open side by side with their questions rather than folded into a drawer.

NO DATA COLLECTED
No account. No sign-up. No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and nothing sold to anyone. Your work syncs privately between your own devices through your iCloud account and goes nowhere else. The App Privacy section on this page says "Data Not Collected" because that is literally true.
Written for students sitting the SHSAT for Grade 8 or Grade 9 entry.
What's New in 1.3
New reading, new lessons, and practice tests that follow the real test more closely.
• Eight new reading passages, among them Helen Keller's own account of learning her first word, and Walt Whitman's "To a Locomotive in Winter" with notes on its hardest words
• Five new lessons: Proportional Relationships, Samples and Populations, Formulas to Know by Heart, Theme, Character & Plot, and Answering Every Question Type
• 36 new math questions, many of them among the hardest in the app
• Practice tests now include three or four stand-alone Revising/Editing questions, as the real test does, and Grade 8 tests stay within Grade 8 math
• New practice for apostrophes, conciseness, commonly confused words, and semicolons and colons
• Fairer typed answers: "simplest form" questions now need a reduced fraction, and more correct ways of writing units and scientific notation are accepted
Your saved progress and results carry over. A practice test left unfinished before this update may not resume if its questions changed; the app will tell you if so.
