Saber is a client for downloading from Usenet with your own news provider account. Drop in an NZB, or search your own indexer, and Saber does the rest: it fetches every article across parallel connections, checks each one, reassembles the file, unpacks it, and leaves the result where you asked for it.
No browser tabs, no half-finished archive parts to tidy up, and nothing left behind but the file you wanted.
A REAL MAC APP
Written in Swift and SwiftUI, and compiled for Apple Silicon. No Electron, no bundled browser, no web view, and nothing running through Rosetta. It launches instantly and sits quietly in memory.
FINISHES THE JOB
Multi-part archives are reassembled and extracted automatically, including sets split across many volumes, releases packed more than once, and posts with scrambled filenames. Password-protected archives are opened with the password the NZB carries. Parity and checksum files and sample folders are discarded, so what arrives is the release rather than the parts it was posted in.
VERIFIED, AND REPAIRED WHEN IT NEEDS TO BE
Every article is checked against the checksum it was posted with, and a bad one is fetched again. The release is then checked as a whole against its parity volumes before anything is unpacked, so what is missing or damaged is rebuilt and a post that has lost articles still finishes. A post decayed past what its parity covers is reported as such rather than failing at extraction.
FAST BY DESIGN
Downloads are spread across up to 50 connections, so you get the throughput your provider plan allows rather than what a single stream can manage.
IN CONTROL
Pause any download and resume it later: Saber keeps what it has and fetches only what is missing. Quitting is no different, so closing Saber mid-download costs nothing. Drag rows to change what runs next, pause the queue, or start a download over.
SEARCH THE INDEXER YOU ALREADY USE
Saber has no index of its own. Add the indexer you already have an account with, using your own API key, and search it from the toolbar. Results show the release, its size, its age and its category, and one click queues it. Narrow a search to the categories your indexer actually carries. Your key is kept in the macOS Keychain, and nothing about what you search for is recorded.
WATCH A FEED
Point Saber at an RSS feed from your indexer, a saved search, a category, or a list of your own, and anything new appearing in it is queued automatically. Feed addresses live in the Keychain too, since they carry your key.
SUPPORT MULTIPLE PROVIDERS
Save as many news providers as you like and switch between them with a click, without retyping a host, a username or a password. Every password lives in the macOS Keychain.
HANDS OFF, IF YOU WANT
Nominate a folder for Saber to watch and any NZB that lands in it is queued on its own. Point your download folder at it and a downloaded NZB starts fetching without you opening the app at all.
WHERE YOU WANT IT
Save finished downloads to your Downloads folder, beside the NZB that produced them, or to a folder you choose. A release holding one file arrives under the release's name, since posters often scramble the payload's own, and every finished row has a button to reveal it in the Finder.
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
Saber talks only to servers you configure yourself: your news provider, and any indexer or feed you add. No account to create, no analytics, no tracking, nothing sent to us. Every credential stays on your Mac, in the Keychain.
WHAT YOU NEED
Saber runs on Apple Silicon Macs, M1 or later, on macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. It is not available for Intel Macs.
Saber is a download client, not a content service. You need your own account with a Usenet provider, and your own with an indexer if you want to search. Saber hosts, indexes and supplies no content itself: it searches only the indexer you configure, using your credentials.

A speed chart along the bottom of the window shows download rate over time, with a choice of how finely it is plotted.
