OiYOi: Make Friends in College
Find your flock · buy & sell
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Make friends in college, buy and sell secondhand, and find places to eat that other students rate, all on one map.
OiYOi is a map of student life.
Moving to a new city is exciting, but the small stuff adds up. Who do you ask to help carry a box up three flights of stairs? Who fancies badminton on Thursday? Where's good for dumplings near campus? Group chats move too fast and it's awkward to keep asking the same people.
OiYOi puts all of that on one map.
STUDENTS ONLY
You join with your university email. It means everyone you meet here is a fellow student, and if anyone behaves badly, there's a real person behind the account. You can report or block anyone at any time.
SHOUT IT OUT ON THE MAP
- Plans: football, hotpot, an exhibition, a library session. Find people to go with.
- Favours: a hand moving flat, picking up a parcel, a quick bit of help.
- Second hand: pass on your desk, kettle or bike instead of binning it. Listings show on the map with a photo and price.
- Urgent: locked out, lost something? People nearby will see it.
Every post is a pin on the map. Someone asks to join, you say yes, and only then can you see each other. Until then, you're both just nicknames.
EXPLORE
Swipe through food, drinks, exhibitions, shows and everyday spots nearby. Read reviews from other students and leave your own.
CHAT AND POSTS
Tap + in a chat to take a photo (with an optional time-and-place stamp) or start a game. Share photos in posts, and reply with gull stickers. Short on time? Send Yoi, our assistant, a photo and it drafts a post for you. Nothing goes out until you confirm, and every post is checked before it goes public.
PROFILES
Your profile is public by default, and you can make it private any time. Follow people, pick a cover, and switch the map to a two-column list of what's on, with "For you" and "Following".
HOME
Close friends' little houses appear on your map, and you can pop in to see if they're in. Homes are shown to the nearest 200 metres or so, never as an exact address.
AFTER GRADUATION
Your uni email won't last forever, but your account is yours. Move it to a personal email and keep your nickname, history and friends. If you go back to uni later, you can switch back.
YOUR LOCATION
OiYOi only uses your location while the app is open. For plans and second-hand listings, the exact spot is only shown if you choose to share it.
