Bug fixes "Take me there" avoids closed roads and trails now

Send a plan from the trail you are looking at. Every trail, route and waypoint card now has a Send plan button. It sends the same card you get when you share a trail, with a message written for the person receiving it: where you are going, when to expect you back, and what to do if they have not heard from you — call the county sheriff for that area, who runs search and rescue in Idaho. Tools shows the plan you have out, so you can check in or send a fresh one. A waypoint now carries a link. Share a pin and the other person gets a page with the coordinates and buttons for Apple Maps and Google Maps. If they have Huck, the link opens the pin in it. Which way is that ridge. Tap the compass button on any waypoint and the ribbon shows its bearing and distance, with a sight line pointing at it. Answers the question hunters ask out loud. A tape measure. Tools has Measure: tap points on the map for a running distance, close the shape for acres or square miles. Trail names on the map. At the zoom where trails are markers, their names now sit beside them, thinning out as they collide, so you can read a valley without tapping every dot. No motors. The filters have a No motors chip that hides every trail open to any motor vehicle. And where the Forest Service's trail tags disagree with its own motor vehicle use map, the map now wins — it is the one a ranger enforces. Your pins and tracks, out and in. Share all your waypoints as one GPX or KML file, share a recorded track as either, and open a GPX from another app to see it on your map. The hunt scope tidies up after itself. Turning it off now turns off both hunt layers, instead of leaving them on the map for you to find. Fresh statewide data, rebuilt this month: trails, roads, closures, fire restrictions, hunt boundaries and points of interest.

How high you are. Your elevation now reads on the map, taken from the same fix that already draws your position — no new permission, no extra battery. It says "approx" when the GPS is unsure of vertical, and shows nothing at all when the reading cannot be trusted. A confident wrong number on a ridge is worse than no number. Trail profiles read in the direction you are actually walking. Climb and descent depend on which way you go, and the card used to pick one and present it as fact. It now says which way it is reading — SW to NE — starts from the end you are standing at, and flips if you tap it. Walk the other way and it turns around with you. Turn back, and the numbers turn back too. Bail at mile 4 of 6 and "to go" used to grow as you walked out, still counting a plan you had abandoned. It now reads "back out": the distance to where the trail meets the road again. Finishing tells you how far you actually got — "You made it 4.2 of 6.1 mi in" — and gates nothing. A bail is an outing too. CarPlay at night. The car map was permanently light; it now follows the appearance you set on the phone. The stats pill says what is ahead — "2.3 left" on the way out, "1.8 back" once you have turned around — and the car's Finish is as honest as the one on the phone. Fixes. The map could paint only part of the screen after the phone had been asleep, leaving a blank strip that stayed until you relaunched. Fire restrictions grew past the top of the screen once much of Idaho went to Stage I, taking the close button with them. And the controls could come up dark over a light map after a drive with CarPlay. Fresh statewide data, rebuilt this month: trails, roads, closures, fire restrictions and points of interest.

CarPlay. Huck is on the dashboard: your offline map, your position, your downloaded regions, no signal needed. Legal to ride. The Forest Service Motor Vehicle Use Map, on your offline map: pick your machine — car, high-clearance, ATV, moto, or 4WD — and every route legally open to it turns green. Solid green is yearlong; dashed is seasonal, and the dates are the legal season, not the snow. Part of Huck+. Weather alerts, live on the map. Active National Weather Service alerts for Idaho draw where they apply, with a badge you can tap. The card leads with what you should actually do, and every reading shows how old it is. Alerts disappear on their own the moment they lapse. The shading can be switched off in Settings — and when it is off, an amber pill under the search bar still tells you a warning is in force. Wildfire. Mapped fire perimeters and newly reported starts, straight from the national feed. Tap a fire for its name, its size, when it was found, and how old our copy of the data is. Statewide fire restrictions are in there too, with what each stage actually prohibits. Sun, moon and shooting light. First light, last light, sunrise, sunset and a "dark in 2 h 40 m" countdown, for any date, computed on the phone with no signal. Huck+ adds legal shooting light, moonrise and moonset, and solunar feeding windows. Before you go. One screen for what you need and what is in force: the fire stage where you are standing, the permits for what you are doing, and the agency rules behind them. The half that matters works with no signal. A pocket for your paper. Tags, permits, the outfitter's hand-drawn map: bring them into Huck from Files and open them offline, right next to the map. Stored on your phone, never uploaded anywhere. Part of Huck+. The numbers from your day. Finished tracks now show moving time versus stopped, best sustained speed, descent, high point, and grade. The track, distance, climb and pace stay free, as they always were. How long it takes, for what you are doing. Time estimates follow whether you are walking, riding, or driving — tap the estimate to change it. An 87-mile forest highway is no longer quoted as a 29-hour hike. Filters that fit your machine. Filter by type — trail, road, primitive — and by length, alongside use, difficulty and surface. The whole filter sheet fits one screen. A map you can read. Highway shields sit on top of the roads instead of under them, they are bigger, and Idaho state routes now wear the shape of Idaho. Road names are upright and bold instead of small italics. Dark mode was rebuilt from the ground up. Huck opens on Idaho rather than a white rectangle. Sharing a trail. Send someone a trail and the link previews with the trail's name, and opens straight into Huck instead of the browser. And Huck now takes about 117 MB less room on your phone — the maps that ship inside the app are read in place instead of being copied. Also fixed: an app left in the background could be shut down by iOS and look like a crash; tapping a trail with several regions downloaded could open a different trail elsewhere in the state; turn-by-turn only worked inside one of your downloaded regions; searching more than one word came back empty when we had the answer; opening a search result cleared the box; the map could stay dark after using CarPlay with the appearance set to Light; the off-trail banner reported metres in an app that speaks feet; and a trail card with a closure on it could cover the trail it was describing.

Trip plan — free. Tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back. Huck writes the message: the place, your return time, coordinates search and rescue can actually use, and when to start worrying. Send it while you still have bars. Huck then holds a reminder for your return time that fires with no signal at all, and finishing a trail checks you in automatically. Points of interest — free. 576 trailheads, information sites and OHV areas from the state's own inventory, with names and descriptions. They cluster, so a count tells you what's over the ridge, and one tap opens it up. New trailheads arrive over the air, without an app update. Cell coverage (Huck+). Where your carrier reports service — Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile, one at a time — with the edge of voice drawn as a line, because that edge is what you plan around. Which end you start from. Trails now show a direction, and a tap flips it. Gain, descent, the profile and the time estimate all follow the direction you actually chose. A rebuilt map toolbar: four buttons a gloved hand can hit, and one "More tools" sheet for the rest. Nothing folds or slides. Also: closure orders now cite themselves and their shapes are tappable; roads are marked as roads; filters for difficulty, surface and open-now; high point, descent and the steepest sustained stretch on the profile; and the forecaster's own words on each weather day. Fixed: shared trail links now open the trail; no more false "off trail" warnings when you haven't started one; the share card is readable in dark mode; feet instead of meters; and the phantom "new map data" banner on the first launch after an update.
