Sunday Paper Games

Six daily games, one paper

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Six games with your coffee: a word chain, a tangle of arrows, a knot of wire, falling letters, a ledger of hidden hazards, and a paper route to ride. Six small games every morning, in one paper. Each takes a few minutes at most. None of them can be lost to bad luck, and none will eat your afternoon. WELD — a word chain Six words are welded into a chain, each making a compound word with the one before it: BUTTER · FLY · PAPER · WEIGHT · LIFT · OFF butterfly, flypaper, paperweight, weightlift, liftoff The first word is free. After that you get one letter and an empty box for each of the rest, and you type it in. A wrong guess costs a strike and uncovers another letter, so you are never stuck staring at nothing. DISPATCH — a tangle of arrows Every piece is a line that bends, with an arrowhead on the end, and they are packed into a shape: a heart, a star, a crescent. Tap one and it slides off the board — but only if nothing stands between its head and the edge it points at. Three boards a day, each bigger than the last, and four chances for the lot. CABLE — a knot of wire Every colour has two terminals. Draw a cable from one to the other without crossing another cable, and use every square on the board. Drive through a cable already laid and you cut it, so the order you work in is the whole game. LEDGER — a ledger of face-down tiles Twenty-five tiles hide 1s, 2s, 3s and hazards. Each row and column shows two numbers: the sum of its tiles and how many hazards it hides — every clue you get, and every clue you need. Flip every 2 and 3 to balance the ledger. Flip a hazard and the day is blotted. Pencil marks included, guessing never required. ROUTE — the morning delivery round Ride down the street with a basket of papers. Swipe to steer, press and hold to brake, tap to toss a paper onto a subscriber's porch — the throw aims itself at the mat glowing gold. Three routes a day, from the Early Edition to the Late Extra, with trash cans, parked cars and potholes in the way, one mercy retry, and an itemized pay stub at the end of the shift. CHUTE — falling letters Letters fall two at a time. Any word of three letters or more clears, across or down — which helps until it eats the letters you were saving. Three of the words you clear must fit the day's theme. Three tries a day. ONE PAPER A DAY The same puzzles for everyone, every day. Not games you binge. A small ritual next to the coffee. A RESULT WORTH SHARING Every finish makes a row of marks — no letters, no positions, nothing that spoils anyone. Paste it anywhere, at any hour. NOTHING UNFAIR Every Weld chain is hand-checked against a fixed list of compounds. Every Cable board is proved to have exactly one solution before it ships. Every Dispatch board is proved clearable from wherever you have got to. Chute deals the same letters to everyone and gives three tries. Every Ledger board is proved solvable without a single guess before it ships. Route deals the same three streets to everyone, and a wall of trash always leaves one gap to ride through. If you are stuck, there is something to find. A WEEK WITH A SHAPE Mondays are gentle and the weekend bites. The difficulty climbs the way a crossword week does. ALSO INSIDE • A streak and a record for Weld, Dispatch, Cable and Chute • Game Center leaderboards for Weld — today's chain, and the longest streak • An optional daily reminder for Weld, at a time you choose • An archive of every past Weld chain, on the website • Plays completely offline. No account, ever. MADE BY ONE PERSON No ads. No accounts. No tracking. Nothing collected that could identify you. Just six games, every morning.

Sharper edges on a young paper. ROUTE — the morning round got harder. The Early Edition now opens where the Late Extra used to sit, and from the Main Run on, two of the three lanes can be walled at once with a single gap to thread. There is always a way through; you just have to find it at speed. On a keyboard, the space bar throws. WELD — the theme peek finally looks like the hint it is, and the button that commits a word now says what it does. The paper's front page now tracks your Route shift too: which run you are on, and what the morning paid.
