The ridge view now finds the landscape on its own, in seconds: hold your phone towards the horizon and the skyline settles onto the peaks, with every name in its place. It then follows your hand without drifting, and says so plainly when the mountains hide behind clouds, instead of showing you an approximate line.

Better skyline view. The horizon line settles onto the landscape by itself: names land on the right summits, with nothing to adjust. They stay put as you sweep the horizon. Pinch to bring a range closer and see its summits one by one. The screen turns to landscape and stays awake while you aim.

Compass calibrated on a celestial body: aim at the sun or the moon, press once, and the compass error is measured and corrected. That is what was missing to name the right peak when a pack frame or a magnetic case throws the magnetometer off by twenty degrees. Sky map: sixteen hundred stars, the figures of the 88 constellations, the visible planets and the moon with its phase — all computed on the device, with no network. What the ridge opposite hides is not drawn. The augmented view now rotates to landscape, and the orientation is correct in every screen direction. Every label now shows the distance to the landmark. New landmarks: named ridges and aretes, the summits of Corsica and of the Massif Central — the latter were missing because OpenStreetMap describes them as volcanoes — and 2,359 coastal towns and villages, recognisable from the sea. New "Cycle routes" overlay: outside the mountains, that is where the MTB loops live. Overlays can now be downloaded for an area, like base maps. Two fixes: "Keep the screen on" takes effect the moment you flip it, and the map recentres when you come back to the app.

Augmented view: point your phone at the landscape and the app names the peaks, passes, islands, lighthouses, harbours and capes in front of you. Offline, Earth curvature included, and only the landmarks that truly clear the terrain are named. The position arrow points along your direction of travel again, north-up as well as heading-up. While recording, the map re-centres itself after you pan away.

Share a route as a plain link: the track travels in a text message, no file and no account. Maps no longer freeze while tiles load, even in dense areas. Map orientation now toggles with one tap, and the heading follows your walk without wobbling. Distance and elevation gain of created routes are measured on the real path. IGN map attribution completed on the listing and inside the app.

The map no longer freezes when the IGN server is slow: overdue tiles are dropped and requested again. The offline cache is out of iCloud backups: it no longer eats your quota. Share a route with a single link. The app now advertises all five of its languages.
