Two teams. One board. Both teammates move at once - in secret. Sit at an open table or meet friends at a private one. No accounts, ever.
Doubles Chess is four-player team chess: two teams of two, one board, and both teammates moving at the same time — secretly.
Each player commands one half of the board (files a–d or e–h). Every turn, you and your partner each pick one move in secret; they execute simultaneously. You can see THAT your partner has locked something in — never what — until both moves hit the board at once.
RULES BUILT FOR SIMULTANEITY
• The first move submitted locks in; the second must make the combined turn legal
• Escape check as a team: one saving move is enough, judged on the combined result
• Two enemy pawns can double-step in one turn — double en passant is real
• Pins are real: you play the board as you see it
• Checkmate only when NO pair of moves saves the king — strictly harder than normal mate
• Pieces that cross the center line change hands: gifting your partner a rook is a strategy
PLAY IN SECONDS
• Create a room, share the 4-letter code, friends join instantly
• No accounts, no sign-ups — pick a name and play
• Empty seat? Add a bot with engine-ranked moves
• Disconnected? Reconnect and pick up exactly where you were
• Resigning takes both teammates. A draw takes all four. Argue accordingly.
Bring your favorite partner. Blame them later.
The club is open!
- OPEN TABLES: the house now keeps a few tables standing. Walk up, sit down, and the game starts when four are seated. Fresh table names daily.
- PRIVATE TABLES: agree on any code with your friends (3-8 letters or digits). Whoever arrives first opens the table; everyone else types the same code and lands in it.
- A cleaner two-page home: enter the club with your name, then browse the tables.
- Sharper rules play: pinned pieces stay pinned, a checked king can never slide along the checking line, and when you can save your own king yourself, you must - the move hints on the board now match the rules exactly.
- Smarter tablemates: the built-in bots now think with a real chess engine.
