Pintuki: Mix Colors Pixel Art
Make each shade from 5 pots
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Five pots and a mixing bench. The number says which colour goes there - making it is on you, and the canvas keeps what you mixed.
Every other color-by-number app hands you the paint. Pintuki hands you five pots and a mixing bench: the number on the square says WHICH color belongs there, and making it is on you. Crimson and cobalt give purple. A drop of white lifts a color without changing it. All three primaries at once kill it stone dead.
That one change turns filling in a picture into something you get better at. Your first sky takes eight drops and lands at 91%. Three artworks later you meet the same blue and already know: cobalt, white, one drop of crimson to take the chill off.
THE MIXING BENCH
- Every number is a color you have to make. Tap a pot to pour a drop, watch the well change, and a meter tells you how close you are.
- The color model is a painter's, not a screen's: yellow and blue give green, where averaging two screen colors gives grey. Hue lives in the red-yellow-blue cube painters are taught; white and black tint and shade on top.
- Eight drops in the well. Undo the last one, or empty it and start over.
- Close enough loads the brush - and close enough bends to what your shelf can really reach, so a color you have no pot for is never a dead end.
- Stuck? Reveal the recipe: the provably best mix your pots can pour. The first two on every artwork are free.
THE PIGMENT SHELF
- You start with five pots: crimson, sunflower, cobalt, titanium white, ink black.
- Tangerine, emerald and violet join as you finish artworks, and they are not decoration: red and yellow give an orange, but the washed-out one halfway inside the cube. The vivid one sits on a corner you need a pot to stand on.
- More pots is not more pictures. It is more REACH: colors you could only approximate start landing exactly.
YOUR COLORS, NOT A MASTER FILE
- The squares fill with the paint YOU mixed, so two people finishing the same artwork finish two different paintings.
- Every finished piece is scored for color fidelity, weighted by how much of the canvas each color covers.
- The mixing log tracks how close you land family by family and names the one still fighting you.
THE WALL
- Every artwork you finish hangs itself on a cozy wall with wooden shelves, framed and lit - in your colors.
- Four frames - wood, pink, mint and gold - so it reads like a room you decorated, not a grid of thumbnails.
- Press and hold to lift a piece and reorder the shelves. Share the whole wall as one picture.
THE TIME-LAPSE REPLAY
- Pintuki remembers the order you filled the squares in and plays it back as a time-lapse the moment you finish.
- Watch your own route appear: one color at a time, outline first, eyes saved for last.
100 ARTWORKS, 10 COLLECTIONS
- Animals, sweets, cozy corners, nature, fruit, fashion, fantasy, hobbies, objects and food.
- Hand-cut grids of 32 x 32 squares or smaller, 12 to 16 colors, 190 to 910 squares: one sitting, not one week.
- One finger paints, two fingers zoom and pan, and the two never fight each other.
- Four per collection are open from the start; the rest open with an optional video you are free to decline.
THE DAILY PIXEL
- One artwork is picked for the day and is playable that day even if it is not open yet. A streak counts the days you showed up; a heatmap shows the months behind it.
- 40 achievements across 10 families, from your first finished piece to a full shelf of pots.
WHEN TO PULL OUT THE POTS
- Anyone out of patience with tapping numbers who wants something to learn
- Winding down after work with no leaderboard anywhere in sight
- The ten minutes it takes the kettle, one colour at a time
- Painters, and people who wish they were
NOTHING LEAVES THIS DEVICE
No account, no sign-up, no login, nothing to connect to. Every square you fill, your streak and your wall live on your device and stay there. Works in airplane mode, and there is no subscription.
You do not color in a Pintuki picture. You mix the colors, and then you paint it.
