A participant rapidly scrolls through a numbered list containing up to 1,000 items—far too quickly to consciously read or remember them. Afterwards, they name the first item and number that come to mind.
When they return to the list, their thought appears at the exact number they named.
Despite having no opportunity to learn either piece of information, their recall appears perfect.
