BikeOtter
Bike Computer Companion
Free · In‑App Purchases
Plan a route with the stops you actually need, send it to your ELEMNT over Bluetooth, and pull the ride back afterwards. No vendor cloud, no account.
BikeOtter is a companion app for the Wahoo ELEMNT (BOLT, ROAM and ACE). It talks to the head unit over the unit's own Bluetooth protocol — there is no vendor cloud in the middle, no second account to make, and no cable.
PLAN A ROUTE, WITH THE STOPS YOU ACTUALLY NEED
Build a route on your phone, or import a GPX. Drop in water, food, toilets, shelter or a bike shop straight off the map and see what each one is before you decide to detour to it. Cafés get their own colour, so a coffee stop is not the same pin as a puncture.
SEND IT TO THE HEAD UNIT
Push the route to your ELEMNT over Bluetooth and it appears in the unit's saved routes — with your stops still on it. Already riding something? BikeOtter reads back the course the unit has loaded, so the phone and the head unit agree about where you are going.
PULL YOUR RIDES BACK
Download a finished ride off the device as a .fit file, look at it, keep it, or turn it straight back into a route to ride again. Hand it to Strava automatically if you want to.
PUT THE WEATHER ON THE SCREEN
See rain and wind along the route before you leave, and have BikeOtter write a warning onto the head unit's display while you ride — rain in twenty minutes, a headwind on the next leg, a climb worth saving something for.
YOUR OWN RULES
Write conditions in plain language — a grade, a heart-rate zone, a temperature, time since you last drank — and BikeOtter puts your own message on the ELEMNT's screen when they are met. Including a sunscreen reminder that follows the actual UV index.
NOTIFICATIONS, ON YOUR TERMS
Forward phone notifications to the head unit from only the apps you choose. Nothing is forwarded until you say so.
SHARE WHERE YOU ARE
Give someone a link and they see you move on a map, with your route and how much of it is left. The link keeps working when your phone loses signal and comes back.
BikeOtter is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Wahoo Fitness or Garmin. "Wahoo", "ELEMNT", "Garmin" and "Edge" are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here only to say which hardware this app works with.
You need a Wahoo ELEMNT bike computer to use most of this app. Garmin Edge support is experimental: pairing, sending routes and pulling rides back work, and the rest is still being built.

Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
• The Ride screen is a map now: load a route and it fills the screen, with the numbers on a sheet you drag up for the rest.
• See when you will get there — a finishing time that counts the climbing left, not just the distance. The app has told the people following your ride this all along; now it tells you.
• What is coming up: the next climb with its length and gradient, the next stop, and how far to the end.
• Drag along the elevation graph to read any point on the route, and see where it is on the map.
• Send a route to your bike computer straight from the Ride screen, with the transfer's progress in the button you pressed.
• Plan a group ride now and ride it later: share the link, see who says yes, and the ride starts itself when the first rider sets off.
• Your ride on the iPhone Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island — time, distance and climb, with a Stop button on iOS 17 and later.
• The ongoing Android notification says what is actually happening: recording, paused, auto-paused, sharing or simply connected, with your ride's figures, in your language. It used to claim a ride was active whenever your bike computer was merely paired.
• Tapping the version number no longer closes the app out of nowhere. A waiting update gets its own band that says which kind it is — and that installing it closes BikeOtter, so you know to open it again.
• Sending a route to an ELEMNT BOLT 2 works again.
• Go live on its own when your ride starts, and tell your default group.
• A ride your head unit recorded replaces the phone's copy of the same ride, instead of both sitting in your history.
• The finished-ride notification arrives when the ride ends, not twenty seconds later.
• The arrival note and the nearly-there heads-up are separate switches now.
• Surface colours are explained in the route's detail view, and drawn as solid stretches rather than dashes.
