Palettie: Color Palette Picker

Hex Codes & Names from a Photo

Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

One photo, twenty palettes. Four extraction methods times five variants. Every color comes back named from a 4,959-color dictionary, with HEX, RGB, HSL and OKLCH to copy. You see a color you like. A wall, a jacket, a painting in a gallery. Ten minutes later you can't remember it. Palettie is a color palette extractor. Point the camera at something and hit the shutter, or open any photo or video frame you already have, and it pulls out the key colors with real names and real codes. HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLCH. Tap a swatch, it's copied. Part color picker, part swatch library. CAPTURE Camera, photo, or a single frame out of a video. Pick how many colors you want: 3, 4, 5, 6, or 8. Four extraction methods, because "the main colors" means different things depending on what you're doing: - Standard - k-means, the usual balanced read - Perceptual - k-means in OKLab, so the split matches how eyes actually work - Actual - medoid, so every color is a real pixel from the image, nothing averaged - Classic - median cut, the old-school algorithm Then five variants off the same shot: Dominant, Vivid, Muted, Lightness, Contrast. That's twenty different reads of one photo without retaking it. Shuffle if none of them land. Undo puts the last palette back. NAMES AND CODES Every color comes back with a name, not just a number. Palettie matches it against a dictionary of 4,959 named colors, so #7A280A reads as Drip Coffee instead of a hex string you'll never remember. The app also carries 37 classic artist pigments, from Ivory Black to Payne's Grey. Codes convert instantly between HEX, RGB, HSL and OKLCH. Tap a color to copy it. Copy All takes the whole palette in one go. ONE COLOR, DEEPER Long-press any swatch and the color detail opens. - Convert - HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLCH, CMYK, LAB, LCH, XYZ and HWB, all at once - Shades - a 21-step lightness scale with the original sitting in the middle - Harmony - analogous, complementary, split-complementary, triadic, tetradic and square - Accessibility - WCAG contrast against white and black, with the grade, so you know whether it's safe for body text - Similar - the eight nearest named colors Colors you keep coming back to go in My Colors. ORGANIZING Palettes go in folders, folders nest several levels down, and tags cut across all of it. Warm, cool, high-key and low-key get tagged automatically based on what's actually in the palette. Delete a folder and the palettes inside move up to the parent instead of vanishing with it. THREE WAYS TO READ A RESULT - Bands - each color takes up as much room as it does in the photo - Catalog - one line per color with name and code, like a gallery label - Pins - dots on the original photo marking exactly where each color came from Already know the color? Type the hex in by hand. WHO IT'S FOR Designers building a moodboard. Illustrators choosing a palette before the first stroke. Anyone matching brand colors, planning a room, putting an outfit together, or writing down the colors in a painting they didn't want to forget. ON YOUR DEVICE Your palettes, folders and settings are stored on this device. No account, no sign-up, no cloud sync. Ivory paper and serif type, because it's built to feel like a museum catalogue rather than a dashboard. Terms of Use: https://jeje-labs.notion.site/palettie-terms-of-service-en
