Runs Out: Expiry Tracker
Warranty & document expiry
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Point the camera at a passport or a receipt and Runs Out reads the expiry date off it, on your device. Then it warns you months ahead, not the day before.
Everything you own has a date on it. Passports, warranties, insurance, vehicle inspections, subscriptions, domains. Not one of them warns you before it is too late.
Runs Out does. Add the thing and the date it expires, once. It counts down, and it speaks up early enough for you to actually do something about it.
HOW IT WORKS
- Type what expires and when. The category is detected from the title, so typing "car insurance" files it under Insurance without you choosing anything.
- Watch it count down in the app, on your Home Screen and on your Lock Screen.
- Get reminded on a schedule that suits the category, instead of one panicked alert the day before.
REMINDERS THAT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE REMINDING YOU ABOUT
Renewing a passport takes months. Claiming a warranty takes an afternoon. They should not warn you at the same time, so they don't:
- Passport or ID: first warning 270 days ahead, then 180, 90, 30, 7 and 1
- Professional certificate: 180, 90, 30 and 7 days ahead
- Insurance: 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1
- Vehicle inspection: 60, 14 and 1
- Subscription: 30, 7 and 1, while cancelling is still free
- Warranty: 30 and 7 days before the cover ends
Every category ships with its own ladder. All reminders fire at a time of day you choose. Pro lets you write your own schedule for any item.
TEN CATEGORIES
Warranty · Passport / ID · Visa / Residency · Driving licence · Insurance · Vehicle inspection · Subscription · Professional certificate · Domain / Hosting · Other
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
This is the part most trackers get wrong.
- No account, no sign-up, no email address. You open the app and start.
- No analytics, no tracking, no advertising, no third-party SDKs. None. The app talks to Apple's frameworks and nothing else.
- Your items live on your device and sync through your own iCloud private database. There is no server of ours in the middle, and we never see your data, including when you share an item: the copy is encrypted with the code itself, which we never receive.
- Notifications never contain serial, policy or reference numbers. You can also hide item titles, so a locked screen only says that something expires in 7 days.
- Face ID or passcode lock on open, included free.
ALSO IN THE BOX
- Point the camera at a document and Runs Out reads the expiry date off it, entirely on your device (Pro)
- Up to 3 photos per item, plus a PDF attachment (Pro)
- Repeats yearly or monthly, with a "Did you renew?" button right in the notification
- Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets
- iCloud sync, on by default, free, never behind the paywall
- Search, sort, category filters, pinning and an archive
- Hand one item to someone as a QR or a short code: encrypted, expiring, revocable (Pro)
- 15 languages, iPhone and iPad
FREE, AND PRO
Free covers 5 items with nothing crippled: every category, photos, the smart reminder ladders, repeats, iCloud sync, the app lock and every widget.
Runs Out Pro is a one-time purchase. Not a subscription, no trial that turns into one. Buy it once and it stays unlocked on every device signed in to your Apple Account:
- Unlimited items
- CSV and PDF export
- PDF attachments
- Document scanner that reads the expiry date for you
- Custom reminder schedules
- Share an item by QR or code
Runs Out is a quiet list of dates that speaks up before they matter. That is the whole idea.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
Share by QR code.
Sending someone a twelve-character code down a phone line was the worst part of sharing an item, so now there is a QR next to it. Point a camera at it and the app opens with the code already filled in. There is a scanner inside the app too, for when the code is on someone else's screen.
Also in this update:
- "Remind me in 7 days" on any reminder, so a warning you cannot act on right now is deferred instead of dismissed
- Settings regrouped, so every setting sits under a heading that describes it
- "Reminder health" is now "Scheduled reminders", and explains what the number means
- Fixed: the calendar mirror failed on accounts that do not allow new calendars
- Fixed: the paywall could get stuck loading and never recover
