OneBeat Guitar Ear
Interval and chord training
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Real guitar recordings, not synth tones. Name the interval, name the chord, fill in the missing chord of a progression — every answer explained, with guitar tab.
OneBeat Ear trains your ear on real guitar recordings — not synthesized tones. Every interval, chord and progression you hear was played on a guitar, so what you learn transfers straight to the instrument in your hands.
FOUR DRILLS, EASIEST FIRST
• Higher or Lower — did the second note go up or down? The gentlest way into ear training, and the one that builds the instinct everything else rests on. • Intervals — name the distance between two notes, from a minor 2nd to an octave, ascending or descending. • Chords — major, minor, sus2, sus4, power chords and dominant 7ths, strummed rather than stacked. • Chord Progressions — hear a four-chord progression in the key of C with one chord silent, and name the one that’s missing. The turnarounds real songs are built from: I-V-vi-IV, ii-V-I, the doo-wop changes and seven more. Replay the whole progression or tap any single chord to hear it on its own.
ANSWERS THAT TEACH
Every answer is explained, right or wrong. You get the verdict, the reason — “That’s a Perfect 4th — 5 semitones” — the notes that were played, and a guitar tab showing exactly where they sit on the neck. In the progression drill you get the full sequence back with the missing chord named both ways, as a Roman numeral and as the chord you’d actually play. Missing a question is how you learn the sound, not a dead end.
TRACK WHAT YOU ACTUALLY MISS
Ten questions per session. Progress keeps your accuracy, your total answered and your best streak for each of the four drills, plus a weak-spots list of the answers you get wrong most often — so you know what to work on next, instead of guessing.
BUILT FOR PRACTICE
• Three difficulty levels: Easy narrows every drill to a handful of clearly distinct answers (and the I, IV and V chords), Normal opens the full set, and Hard plays about half the intervals descending. • iPhone and iPad, with the same layout on both. • No account and no ads. Nothing leaves your device.
