Oddiles

Choices matter, plot twist RPG

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Chapter one — The Salt Shore — is playable now. Wash up with nothing, earn your way to the road out. A storm puts you on the sand of an island you have never heard of, with no name and no memory of how you got there. Someone takes you in. What you do after that is up to you. Oddiles is a tile RPG you play a square at a time. You see a five-by-five window onto one large world and it follows you as you walk — hold a square to read what is on it, tap what is standing there to pick a fight. TILE BY TILE The world is one continuous map, not a set of rooms. Fog lifts as you go, high ground sees further, and there is always one more square worth walking to. FIGHTS YOU REACT TO Combat runs in real time. Swing timers, bleeds, cast bars and cooldowns all tick ten times a second, so a fight is something you read and respond to rather than something you take turns at. Watch a boss wind up and get out of the way — or drink something and hold the line. BOSSES WITH MECHANICS The thing standing between you and the road out is not a bigger crab. It has a rage meter, a telegraphed slam, and a spell it opens with from two tiles away. You will want the flasks. GROW BY DOING, NOT BY SPENDING There is no point pool and no allocation screen. Swing a weapon to grow stronger, walk to grow quicker, eat to grow tougher, land a spell to deepen your mana. Every attribute is earned by doing the thing it is for. GEAR THAT SHOWS Every piece you equip is drawn on your character. Six armour slots, a weapon and an off-hand, and every number on a drop is rolled — so a plain sword that came up high can beat a better one that came up low. ERRANDS THAT ARE ABOUT SOMEBODY Quests are somebody asking you for help, and they remember whether you came back. Standing with the people you help is tracked and it will matter. MAKE SOMEONE Six folk, hair, beard, colours, your name. Then wake up on the shore as them. No sign-up, no account, no ads. Open it and you are playing. Chapter one — The Salt Shore — is playable now. Chapter two is on the way.
