A calm, honest window into the world. Real places, captured in unedited 12-second recordings — no music, no filters, no performance. Just life, exactly as it happened.
12 Seconds of the World is an independent visual archive of real places — ordinary, unrepeatable moments preserved exactly as they happened.
Most travel content shows carefully selected highlights. This project preserves something different: a quiet street in the morning, rain falling through a forest, waves reaching a distant shore, people crossing a city square. Nothing staged, nothing added.
EVERY RECORDING FOLLOWS THE SAME RULES
• Exactly 12.0 seconds long
• Recorded at a real location with a stationary camera
• Original ambient sound only — no music or narration
• No filters, color grading, effects, or transitions
• No speed changes, no AI-generated or AI-altered footage
• No logos, watermarks, or text inside the video
• No editing beyond trimming to exactly 12 seconds
MORE THAN A VIDEO
Every recording is preserved as a full archive entry: country, city, and exact location, recording date and local time, weather conditions, camera coordinates, and a unique Archive ID (format 12S-CC-NNNNNNN) so every moment stays identifiable as the collection grows.
EXPLORE THE WORLD YOUR WAY
• Discover by location — travel between countries, cities, landscapes, and everyday spaces
• Explore the interactive map — find recordings by their real-world camera locations, full screen
• Search and filter — by country, city, place, date, or Archive ID
• Read the full record — weather, elevation, equipment, and coordinates you can copy or open in Maps
• Set moments aside — a private list, never counted, never shown to anyone
RECORD A MOMENT YOURSELF
Contributing is optional, and deliberately unlike posting. You enrol once as a witness — a public name, a recovery route, one confirmation on your device — and then you may record.
One take. Exactly twelve seconds. No editing screen, no retakes stitched together, no filters. You confirm the recording or you discard it. Nothing publishes from the camera: a take is held privately on your phone until you choose to submit it, and every submission is read by a steward before it is accessioned. There are no likes, no comments, no followers, and no way for anyone to message anyone.
HOW TO WATCH
Turn your sound on. Watch full-screen when you can. Give each moment your full attention for 12 seconds, and listen to the original sounds of the place. There's no narration telling you what to feel — the meaning of each moment is yours to discover.
The archive grows one recording at a time, from the people who were standing there: a map of real places, natural sounds, daily routines, and ordinary life across the world — catalogued, and kept for a hundred years.
Ratings & Reviews

Today's recording now opens its catalogue record — the place, the
coordinates, the accession number and everything else the archive keeps
about it. Tap the details under the recording.
A vertical recording now fills the width of its catalogue record,
rather than sitting in a narrow column with half the screen dark either
side of it. Full screen still shows every recording whole, at its true
shape and uncropped.
Recording a moment now offers both choices on one screen: keep the take
privately in your record, or submit it to a steward for accession. It
was possible to record something and reasonably believe it had been
submitted when it had not. Leaving a take without doing either now asks
first, rather than quietly discarding twelve seconds.
For witnesses choosing a printed certificate at enrolment: the
certificate is now offered once your witness number exists, and carries
it. Before, it could be shared before the number had been issued.
Recordings are steadier. The camera's own stabilisation is now used
while a take is running — the archive still never edits, trims or
re-frames what it receives.
