Write in markdown that reads like a finished document — headings, tables, code, and callouts, right on the page. It stays an ordinary .md, and it works offline. Simple .md is a Mac editor that opens a markdown file as rendered text and lets you write straight into it — like a word processor. If you know markdown, type it. If you don't, use the toolbar and Simple .md writes it for you. Either way, the file on your disk stays an ordinary .md that any other program can open. THE DOCUMENT IS THE EDITOR Not a preview you switch to. Headings, tables, highlighted code and callouts look finished, and you type straight into all of it. The outline down the side lists your headings; click one to jump there. TWO PANES WHEN YOU WANT THEM Open the Viewer on the right to see the markdown and the rendered text side by side, scrolling in step. You type in the Editor, in the rendered text or in the markdown, whichever you prefer. The Viewer shows the other one. TABLES, CALLOUTS, FOOTNOTES AND CODE Tables, checklists, callouts, footnotes, quotes, and code blocks coloured by language. Each has a control on the toolbar except footnotes, which you type as markdown. THREE THEMES Paper, Crisp and Editorial. A theme changes the whole window — the paper, the typeface, the heading scale, and how tables, code and callouts are drawn — and each has a light and a dark side. Hover one in the menu to see a sample of it beside the menu; nothing changes until you choose. A theme is yours, not the document's, and none of it touches your file. When you want it to travel, export a web page, with the images it shows inside it, which carries the theme in light and dark, or a PDF, which carries its type and accent on white paper. YOUR WORDS STAY YOURS It's an ordinary markdown file, on your own disk. Any app that reads markdown can open it. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting, no ads, no update check. Nothing is collected. The app works offline and never sends your files anywhere. Requires macOS 13.1 or later. Apple silicon or Intel.
