PlayPiano Smart Practice Coach

Piano sheet music, graded

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

New in 2.0: play from the first minute, keyboard or not. A rebuilt first session, a report that covers the whole piece, and a plan written for any piece you own. PlayPiano listens while you play real sheet music and grades every note as it happens. Stop, and you get a score you can trust and the exact bars to work on next. Free. No subscription, no ads, no account. Works with any USB or Bluetooth MIDI piano keyboard, and with the on-screen keys when you have none. PICK WHY YOU ARE HERE Tap a piece and choose the session before it starts. Play is yours: every setting unlocked, nothing scored. Coach hands the piece to its practice plan, which picks the passage and the exercise. Grade is one run under fixed conditions: both hands, nothing waiting, ordinary timing, and it counts. The screen says which it would pick, and shows your best score and its trend. NOT A VIDEO LESSON Open a built-in piece or import your own MusicXML or MIDI. The score is engraved like a printed edition and scrolls as you play, and each note lights up right, early, late or missed. A REPORT THAT TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO The review opens on the weakest part of that run and a button that loops the bars which lost the most. Open Breakdown for all seven components; tapping one repaints the score by it alone, so a chord score of 62 turns into bars you can see. A SCORE YOU CAN TRUST The grader measures what a piano teacher listens for: right notes, timing against the beat, note lengths, dynamics from the written marks, how together your chords land, evenness, and pedal. A score is only awarded under the same conditions each time, so a 94 today means the same as a 94 next month. A PRACTICE PLAN MADE FOR THE PIECE Give the app a piece and it reads every bar and writes a plan: short passages in the order a teacher would take them, each with one job. Hands separate. Slow. Broken chords blocked into shapes. Every chapter ends with the passage as written and scored, so you are measured on music, not drills. One new piece a week, and the score file never leaves your device. PRACTICE TOOLS THAT DO THE WORK Wait mode holds the music until you find the right key. Loop any passage by dragging across the bars. Take it up raises the tempo after a clean pass and drops it after a weak one. Switch a hand off and the app plays it while it scores the other. A METRONOME BUILT FOR THE MUSIC STAND Time signatures from 2/4 to 12/8, subdivisions and swing, a tempo trainer, and silent bars to test your pulse. Inside a piece, the click follows the score's own meter. A GUIDED PATH FOR BEGINNERS Fifty-one short units: finding notes, five-finger position, chords, scales, reading, key signatures and your first real pieces. Every unit is passed by playing, not watching. Already play? Skip ahead, or test out of a chapter. TRAINERS AND SIGHT READING Seven trainers: note reading, chords with inversions, scales in both hands, rhythm, interval and chord hearing, and echo. Levels open as you play clean rounds, and what you miss comes back until it sticks. Sight reading gives you a fresh four-bar piece every time, at five levels. Home opens on Today with your next step, Practice holds the trainers and tools, Library holds your pieces. Landscape, with a full-width keyboard, on iPhone and iPad. Your progress stays on your device, and anonymous reports can be switched off in Settings and guide.

PlayPiano 2.0. The app has been rebuilt around your first ten minutes with it. - A new first session. Connect a keyboard by cable or Bluetooth and watch it name every key you press, or start playing on the on-screen keys right away. Without an instrument you can still play. - Home is three places now: Today for what to do next, Practice for the trainers and the tools, Library for your pieces. - Opening a piece asks what the session is for. Play to explore, Coach to work one passage from its plan, Grade for a run that counts. Only Grade keeps a score, and it asks for real keys, because a score earned on glass is not the same thing. - Your report shows where it went wrong across the whole piece instead of the first few bars. Tap any bar to open the notes inside it. - A passage you pass now says so. - When a practice plan cannot be made, the app says which thing went wrong and what you can do in the meantime. - Suggested fingering is drawn on the key it belongs to. - Four widgets: your week, your next step, a quick start, and a note to name. Each one is a tap from practising. - On iPad, Today, the report and the trainers use the extra room instead of stretching. - A run where nothing was heard says so, instead of scoring it zero and inventing advice about it. - A new look throughout: one colour per meaning, type of the app's own, and controls that press like piano keys.
