The Parcel
Front desk parcel log book

The paper book is fine until you have to find something in it. Record a parcel in, hand it over, and find it again with a queue of residents waiting.
The paper book is fine until you have to find something in it.
Every delivery to the building goes through one counter and gets written on one line. The Parcel keeps that line — and finds it again in a second, with a queue of residents waiting.
BUILT FOR THE COUNTER IT SITS ON
• Type the apartment number and it is suggested from the ones already in the book, so it is spelled the same way every time
• What is still waiting appears before the resident has finished asking
• Recording a handover takes a few taps, one-handed
WORKS WITH NO SIGNAL
The book lives on the device. A basement mail room with no bars records parcels in and out exactly as normal, and catches up when it can. Nothing waits for a network.
NOTHING IS EVER DELETED
Parcels in and parcels out are both append-only. A mistake is corrected by recording the correction, so the book still shows what was written and who changed it. What is outstanding is worked out from the lines, never a stored number that can quietly drift.
CONFIRM A HANDOVER, OR DO NOT
Take the collector's name, and a signature, a spoken confirmation or a photo — any, all, or none. For the spoken one the app shows a sentence to read aloud, in a language the resident chooses rather than the one the officer is using.
RESIDENTS NEED NO ACCOUNT
Only officers use the app. A line carries an apartment number, not a person. Nothing about a resident is stored, so nothing about them can leak.
WHEN A DELIVERY IS DISPUTED
Export an apartment's whole history as a PDF: every parcel in, every parcel out, and the running balance between them. Struck-out lines are printed too, because a record that quietly loses its corrections is not evidence of anything. Times print on the desk's own clock, not the clock of whoever is printing it.
HANDING OVER A SHIFT
Adding an officer is a QR code, eight characters read aloud, or a link — the same invite, three ways to pass it on. Single use, expiring after four hours, and cancellable before it is used.
MULTI LANGUAGES
Per device, not per building. Two officers sharing one book can each read it in their own language, and exported reports follow suit.
