NeoWords teaches vocabulary six words at a time — German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch or English. Each word arrives as a watercolour illustration with its article, its plural and its voice — because learning "Katze" and learning "die Katze" are not the same thing, and only one of them is any use in a sentence.
GENDER AS COLOUR
Gender is not guessable and not optional, so here it is never small grey print beside the word. It is the colour the word wears — der is blue, die is terracotta, das is green — on every card, in every exercise, from the first minute. At some point you stop recalling the article and start seeing it. Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese work the same way with el and la, un and une, il, lo and la, o and a; Dutch with de and het. English has no gender, so the English course honestly drops articles everywhere instead of drilling an empty question.
SIX WORDS, SIX WAYS
You meet six words at a time, then you are asked for them six ways: Meet the words, Flashcards, Pairs, Anagram, Write it, Mix. Recognising a word is the easy half of knowing it — four of the six steps make you produce the word yourself: pick it out, build it from loose letters, type it from the picture alone, then do it again cold.
A PAINTING FOR EVERY WORD
39 topic packs and 1,489 words in every course — the same curriculum, painted once and rebuilt seven times. Every illustration is a watercolour made for its word — painted, not stock. Every word is read by one voice, checked clip by clip, and comes with its plural and an example sentence.
WORDS COME BACK
What you learn returns after 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days until it settles: recall first, then reveal, then grade yourself honestly. The listening lap turns the clip into the question — you hear the word cold and answer before you see it. And the placement check starts you where you actually are, not at page one.
A DAY THAT CLOSES GENTLY
A small daily ring fills as you learn. Closing it keeps your streak; every seventh closed day banks a mend, and a mend repairs a missed evening overnight, silently. At most one reminder a day — and none once the ring is closed.
THIRTY SECONDS OF ARTICLES
The Blitz, in every course that has articles: thirty seconds, articles only, as many nouns as you can clear. An optional weekly league runs through Game Center, with one board per language — a German score and a Spanish score are different games.
IN THE LANGUAGE YOU THINK IN
Meanings, example sentences and the whole interface in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Russian, German, Italian, Polish, Dutch or Ukrainian. The only foreign thing here is the words.

• Anagram is by ear: hear the word, then build it from its letters, on three of the six words.
