Series One is out now. Take a bearing, tune a shortwave band, find the message hidden in a real time signal, then fly to whatever sent it. No ads. No in-app purchases.
An unidentified object has entered your area. You have a compass, a shortwave receiver, and ten minutes.
ENSPINORS is a hunt built out of real instruments. The compass reads your phone's magnetometer and the bearing it gives you is a true one. The shortwave band behaves the way a shortwave band behaves. The time signal you find is modelled on WWV in Fort Collins, Colorado — a real station, broadcasting the exact time, right now, as you read this.
And someone has been tampering with it.
WHAT YOU DO
Sweep the horizon with your phone held up like an aerial until a signal answers. Reject the reflections. Tune down the shortwave band and find the carrier. Take the waveform apart into its harmonics. Listen to the clock — and notice that some of its ticks arrive early, and some arrive late, by microseconds.
That is a message. Copy it, character by character, in real Morse.
Then fly a drone across the actual satellite terrain outside your window to the coordinates it gives you, find the single wavelength of light that is hiding what has landed there, and cancel it.
What happens after that is not described here.
PROFESSOR VEGA'S ACADEMY
At every stage, an optional badge offers a lesson. Take it and a scientist explains the real physics behind whatever is on your screen — why a compass needle knows which way north is, how a radio wave bounces off the sky, why a violin and a flute playing the same note sound nothing alike, what the Doppler effect actually measures.
Each lesson is an animated diagram cut to her voice. None of it is required. All of it is true.
HOW LONG IT IS
The investigation itself is about ten minutes: five stages, end to end, taking nothing optional.
Stop for Professor Vega's lessons as they are offered and it is closer to twenty. Read the Academy's
eight articles as well and it is around forty.
That range is the honest shape of it, and it is deliberate. This is a short, dense thing you can
finish in one sitting, with a great deal more underneath it if you want to know how any of it
actually works.
The Academy also holds eight long-form articles you can read or have read to you — magnetism, shortwave propagation, atomic clocks, Fourier analysis, the Doppler effect, the electromagnetic spectrum, the heart — and one called "What Is Real in Enspinors", which is an honest accounting of exactly which parts of this game are true and which are invented. Very few games can publish that document. This one can.
BUILT FOR THE HAND
There is no artwork in Enspinors. Every graphic is drawn by the phone as you watch, every sound is generated a sample at a time, and every haptic is composed rather than sampled. The instruments are meant to be felt as much as seen: the signal is in your hand before it is on the screen.
Headphones are strongly recommended.
NO ADS. NO IN-APP PURCHASES. NO TRACKING.
One price, once. Your location is used on the device to place the map and read the compass, and it never leaves the phone — there is no account, no server, and nothing is collected.
SERIES ONE OF MANY
This is a complete story with an ending. More series follow, and the App Store will tell you when the next one lands.
Contains a short, intense sequence near the end. Headphones and the dark are recommended, and warned about.
