The abacus is not an ancestor of the calculator. It is a way of thinking that lives in your hands.
Abacus Legend puts a real 2:5 suanpan on your screen. Each bead above the beam counts five, each below counts one, and a bead pushed toward the beam is active. Tapping feels like the real thing: tap an active bead and it slides away together with everything between it and the beam; tap an inactive one and it comes in the same way. A rod may even read 15 for a moment, because that is exactly how a real abacus passes through a carry.
NINE CHAPTERS, NINETY STAGES, NINE KINDS OF PROBLEM
From reading your first bead all the way to division:
· Set — dial the given number
· Addition — make five, carry ten
· Subtraction — break five, borrow ten
· Chain — several operations in a row
· Flash — numbers appear one by one; add each to the abacus as it comes. The abacus is your memory, and everything shown stays on screen
· Deft — reach the target within a strict budget of bead moves
· Complement — what completes it to ten, hundred or thousand: the backbone of bead arithmetic
· Multiplication — single-digit multiplier, rod by rod
· Division — exact division; estimate, then place
DAILY CHALLENGE
Ten questions a day, identical for every player, drawn from all nine chapters. Your best score and your streak are kept.
