MNTRP
Experimental ambient drone
$6.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
An experimental interstellar drone instrument. Send a spaceship around the Moon and twenty engines morph with it — five stages, one continuous journey. Standalone + AUv3.
MNTRP is a drone instrument shaped like a journey: Earth to the Moon and back. A spaceship travels a figure-8 trajectory across the screen, and where the ship stands on that path IS the sound. There are no patches to browse — you play a position in space.
THE TRIP
The voyage passes through five stages, each with its own synthesis engines:
• Liftoff — deep roaring engines, shaking metal
• Interstellar — adventurous, airy drift (crossed twice: outbound and homebound)
• Around the Moon — dark, mysterious, bowed strings
• Reentry — the burn of coming home
As the ship moves, the stages blend continuously into each other — a morph, never a switch.
FLYING
• Drag the spaceship along the path, or move the mission slider.
• Or set a flight time (10–300 seconds) and press FLY: the ship flies itself and the sound travels with it. Missions loop — the entered time is one lap. Single-run mode lives in OPT.
• The ship's position sets WHERE you are; the keyboard sets what sounds there. Nothing plays until you play. HOLD latches keys for hands-free drones.
THE FIVE SHIP SYSTEMS
The five big knobs mix the ship's systems, and each system keeps the same role through every stage:
• ENGINES — the low floor: rumble, pedal, buffet
• HULL — the ship's pitched voice
• LSS — life support: the air
• NAV — events and markers
• COMMS — radio artefacts and telemetry
TUNE
Twelve shaping knobs under the TUNE panel: CUTOFF, RESO, DRIVE, TILT, TONE, SUB, ATTACK, RELEASE, GLIDE, RATE, DEPTH, SPACE.
TRIPS — KNOB AUTOMATION
Hold a still finger on any knob for two seconds to lock its value at the ship's current position — a red dot marks it on the knob's arc. Lock two or more points and the knob glides between them as the ship flies, around the full loop with no jump at the wrap. Name your trips, save them, load them.
POV
Press POV to ride in the cockpit: the Moon approach, the dark far side, Earthrise, the sun with its waving corona. Tilt your device to look around — the scene is a real 3D space in low-res pixel art: parallax stars, orbiting satellites, meteors, a photographed Milky Way. The sunlight follows your tilt, the terminator creeps across Earth and Moon — and at the right angle you can pull the Earth's shadow onto the Moon for an eclipse.
AUV3
MNTRP ships as an AUv3 instrument and an AUv3 effect for hosts like AUM, GarageBand and Logic. The instrument is the full trip; the effect flies your own audio through the engines — the host signal bows the Moon's strings and feeds the reentry burn. Full state saving in the host; hardware MIDI in the standalone app.
No accounts, no network, no data collected. Just the trip.
