Daily Rule keeps the Rule of St. Benedict at the pace it was written
for: a short portion each day, three times through the year, in the
divisions Benedictine houses have used for centuries.
It is a reading system rather than a copy of a book. The app tracks
where you are in a 122-portion cycle, decides what today's reading is,
sets it in type made for sustained reading, and stays out of the way.
THE DAILY READING
• The traditional thrice-yearly cycle, leap years included: 1 January
to 1 May, 2 May to 31 August, 1 September to 31 December.
• Follow the calendar, or read in sequence, where the next portion
waits until you have finished the one before it.
• The app remembers where you stopped, and will give you one quiet
daily reminder that goes silent once you have read.
THE TEXTS
• The complete Rule in English, in Leonard J. Doyle's 1948 translation,
and in the original Latin. Read either alone, or both together.
• Dom Paul Delatte's Benedictine commentary, in Dom Justin McCann's
translation, matched to each day's portion and a toggle away.
• Verse numbers and scripture references, each of which can be turned
off.
• Transcribed from the 1921 printing and collated against it page by
page. Corrections are listed in the app under Notes on this edition.
THE TYPOGRAPHY
• Set like a printed book: drop caps, small capitals, old-style
figures, and a paper-and-ink palette in light and dark.
• Three typefaces, including OpenDyslexic, and your own text size,
independent of the system setting.
• Page-turning or scrolling, whichever suits you.
• A tap gives distraction-free full screen. The text never shifts or
reflows under you.
YOURS ALONE
• No accounts, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking.
• No network access of any kind. The entire text lives on your device
and works with no connection at all, in a monastery or on a plane.

Two stray lines of the Rule's list of instruments are removed from the commentary, which no longer repeats what the reading itself shows; and a paragraph no longer ends on a dash the page does not have.
