The built-in looks have been reworked — and if you have been with us a while, this is the first update that can actually change them on your phone. YOUR BUILT-IN LOOKS NOW UPDATE • Until now, an update could not revise a built-in look on an existing install. It can, and this one does — your own imported presets and your names for things are left alone SEVEN LOOKS REVISED • Each one was rendered and measured rather than eyeballed. Tungsten is genuinely cool now — it was named after a colour balance it never applied. Golden is warmer, where a blue tint had been quietly working against it. Green Accent finally lifts green • Mono Tone picks up a cool-shadow, warm-highlight split, so black and white is no longer flatly neutral • The cinema-inspired looks carry a little more grain, dialled to the format each production was shot on GRAIN THAT READS LIKE FILM • Fine, Medium and Coarse are properly distinct now — they used to differ so slightly that the choice barely showed • Grain fades away in deep shadows and blown highlights instead of sitting on top of them, which was the main reason it read as digital noise rather than film • Each stock has its own strength, the way real film does — some are three or four times grainier than others • Fine grain no longer breaks up on the live view CAMERA FIXES • Switching lenses is clean: no wrong framing as you cross a zoom step, no brightness re-measure, no blink • Exposure bracketing captures the right steps at both photo sizes, and shows its progress as it goes • The live view no longer jumps or stutters when you tap shutter, ISO, flash or resolution • Black and white can take a pure white glow, with no colour cast ALSO • The zoom control is easier to reach, with the exposure readout on the dial itself and a small map showing where you are in the frame Thank you for shooting with us. Flash is the main story this time. FLASH • Fill flash in a room with decent light no longer overexposes. The background is held back so the flash lights your subject, which is what fill flash is supposed to do • Dark rooms take one clean burst, with nothing lighting the scene beforehand • Auto flash in daylight stays quiet and takes the ordinary exposure • With flash on, the Camera Control and volume buttons fire as quickly as the on-screen shutter — they used to hang back • Front camera flash gets the same highlight handling as the rear WHITE BALANCE • The white balance slider is even across its whole length. The cool half used to be crushed into a sliver at one end, so most of the travel did almost nothing • Semi-auto white balance now sits exactly on neutral in the middle, with a gentle warm or cool lean either side that behaves the same in any light MANUAL AND LOW LIGHT • With shutter and ISO set by hand, the viewfinder finally matches the brightness of the photo — a slow shutter used to preview far darker than it saved • Dim scenes with a face in the frame reach the slower, cleaner exposure more reliably • Every manual shot is checked against the settings you dialed, and tells you when it could not use them FIXES • Swiping between looks no longer stops working after a stray two-finger touch on the viewfinder Thank you for shooting with us. Night and flash shots got most of the attention this time — and every preset, including the ones you bring yourself, now renders the way its maker built it. FLASH AND LOW LIGHT • Flash photos are exposed for the light the flash actually adds, so faces close to the camera stop washing out • Very close subjects are lit steadily instead of by a pulse — night shots keep their warmth rather than blowing out • Dim scenes reach for a slower shutter before pushing sensitivity, so night photos come back cleaner • Faces are metered before the flash fires, exposing for the person and not the wall behind them PRESETS RENDER THE WAY THEY WERE BUILT • Presets exported from recent versions of Lightroom now load completely — some of their settings used to be skipped • Adjustments a preset applies to only part of the frame now come through at their full intended strength • Grain holds its size relative to the frame, so the grain you see is the grain you get • Vignettes, contrast and colour shifts follow the preset's design far more closely THE VIEWFINDER MATCHES THE PHOTO • Sharpening, local contrast, haze removal and vignetting now look the same live as they do in the saved file FIXES • Changing shutter speed or ISO mid-shot no longer affects the photo being taken — it applies to the next one • Long exposures hold one steady exposure from the first frame to the last ALSO • A higher-fidelity colour option for photos headed to print or further editing • Low Light Enhancement and iOS Processing switches in Settings Thank you for shooting with us.
