Xiangqi the way it is actually played: rated games against real people, and the classical endgame studies every club player grew up on. MATCHES THAT COUNT Rapid (15 min, +5 sec a move) and Blitz (8 min, +3 sec). Every game moves your Elo, and Rapid and Blitz are rated separately, so a bad night at blitz leaves your rapid rating alone. One minute per move keeps a game from stalling. 3,000 CLASSICAL STUDIES Not mate-in-two exercises — the real thing. These are the street-corner endings and composed studies that circulate in Vietnamese and Chinese chess books: a whole ending where Red is winning, or holding a draw from a position that looks lost. You play them out. Any legal move is allowed. While you follow the recorded line your opponent answers from the book; step off it and the engine takes over the defence. A study is solved when your opponent has no move left, or when you have played the recorded line to its end. Every position and every move was replayed through the rules engine before it shipped, so no study contains an illegal move or a line that does not reach its stated result. Sorted into easy, medium and hard, filtered by what you have already solved, and your progress is kept on your account rather than on the phone. PLAY THE ENGINE Unlimited time, adjustable strength.
