Take your usual walk along the Kumano Kodo or the Amalfi Coast. Your steps move you across a hand-drawn map, past landscapes, stories, stamps. Five roads free, 399 km.
MICHIORI turns your everyday steps into a journey along the great old roads of Japan and the world. Your step count from Apple Health moves you along a hand-drawn map. Five roads are free from end to end, 399 km in all, from the Kumano Kodo to the Milford Track.
Walk the world's great old roads.
■ Every walk moves you down the road
Choose a road under Routes and begin. Steps recorded in Health after you start become distance on the map, and the next place becomes a reason to walk.
■ Drawn, not photographed
Every road has its own illustrated map, and the places and stamps are drawn for it too. No stock photos, no map screenshots.
■ Arrive somewhere, and read about it
Each checkpoint comes with a short piece on that place: mountain hamlets, towns above the Mediterranean, post towns on the Tokaido.
■ Stamps and finished roads stay in your passport
Every place you reach leaves a stamp and a date in your passport. Finish a road and you get a completion seal with the days and distance it took. Favorite roads can be walked again, lap by lap.
■ Five free roads, 399 km
Kumano Kodo Nakahechi, 17 km: Takijiri-oji to Tsugizakura-oji, through forest and hamlets.
The Amalfi Coast Path, 58 km: Vietri sul Mare to Positano, seven real places along the coast. The 58 km is the in-app distance, not one continuous trail.
West Highland Way, 154 km: Milngavie to Fort William, beside Loch Lomond and into the Highlands.
Appalachian Trail, Great Smoky Mountains, 116.5 km: Fontana Dam to Davenport Gap, the most celebrated stretch of the whole trail.
Milford Track, 53.5 km: Glade Wharf to Sandfly Point, in Fiordland.
■ Roads you can walk with MICHIORI Premium, 1,259 km
Tokaido: The 53 Stations, 495.5 km in four sections. Nihonbashi in Tokyo to Sanjo Ohashi in Kyoto, through the fifty-three post towns of the old highway.
Camino de Santiago, the Camino Frances, 763.7 km in six sections. Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port over the Pyrenees, through Burgos, Leon and Galicia, to Santiago de Compostela.
■ Questions people ask
Q. How much can I do without paying?
All five free roads, stories and stamps included: 399 km.
Q. What does Premium add?
The Tokaido and the Camino, 1,259 km together, and the banner at the bottom goes away. Roads added later are included while you subscribe. The free roads stay free either way.
Q. What happens if I cancel?
Your distances, stamps and finished roads all stay. Only the Premium roads become read-only, and they continue where you left off if you subscribe again.
Q. How are ads shown?
One banner along the bottom edge. No full-screen ads, no video, nothing that interrupts you. Premium removes it.
Q. Do I have to go there?
No. Whatever you walk on an ordinary day counts toward the road you chose. No GPS tracking, and not for navigation on the real trail.
Q. Anything else worth knowing?
No need to keep the app open: MICHIORI reads the step count already in Health. Notifications are optional. No leaderboards, no social features, nothing that nags you to walk today.
■ Your steps and your records
Only the step count is read from Health, nothing is written back, and it is never sent anywhere. Your journey is stored on your device, and syncs to your own iCloud if it is available. There is no account to create. Ads are served by Google; your steps and your journey are never used for advertising.
■ About MICHIORI Premium
An auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, with no free trial.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, and renews at the same price unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
Cancel any time in Settings, under your name, in Subscriptions.
Terms of Use (EULA): https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
■ Before you start
Requires iOS 17 or later. Distances are estimates converted from step counts at a fixed stride of 0.7 m, not a measurement of how far you walked. The maps picture a journey, not a survey of the route.
