Hemlog is an alteration log for tailors and alteration shops, kept one garment at a time.
Most measuring apps record a customer's body. Hemlog records the work: this garment, this part, from this measurement to that one, done this way, under these conditions. When the same customer brings the same trousers back, you start from that record instead of measuring from scratch.
WHAT IT KEEPS
• The unit of record is one alteration, not one body. Customer, then garment, then alteration — so a second pair of trousers is its own record.
• How the measurement was taken, kept with it: where you measured from, the heel height of the shoes they were wearing, standing or seated, and who measured.
• How much you could still let out. When someone asks whether it can go longer, the hem and seam allowance left is already in the record.
• Measured, told, or worked out. A number you were given is not the same as a number you measured. Every value carries which it was, and a record without enough measured values says plainly that it cannot be reproduced from what is there.
• Washed before altering, or not. Shrinkage is the single biggest reason a garment finished to the same numbers looks different. Hemlog records the care label and whether the garment was washed first, and warns you when you duplicate an alteration made before washing.
• Photos: before, pinned, in progress, after.
START FROM THE LAST ALTERATION
"Same length as last time" takes one tap. The part, technique, measurements, measuring conditions and machine settings carry over — and the numbers arrive as instructions, not as measurements, so you measure the new garment to confirm.
CENTIMETRES OR INCHES
Inches are entered and shown in eighths (31 3/8"). A value entered in centimetres is rounded to the nearest eighth when shown in inches, and marked with ≈ so you know. Switching units never changes what was saved.
YOUR CUSTOMERS' DATA
Hemlog does not connect to the internet, has no accounts, and sends nothing to the developer. There are no analytics or advertising libraries.
When a customer asks you to remove their details, removing contact details is separate from deleting everything. The first replaces the name with an anonymous ID and keeps the alterations, so your own record of the work survives.
FREE AND FULL ACCESS
Recording is free and unlimited — customers, garments, alterations, photos, backup and restore, the app lock, home screen widgets, and searching by one thing at a time. The app lock is free on purpose: your customers' names and phone numbers are on the device.
Full access adds the paperwork: your own price list and estimates, the receipt of item as PDF, the customer chart as PDF, before/after images without the watermark, searching with two or more filters, unlimited custom presets, and keeping photos at full resolution. It is available as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time purchase with no auto-renewal.
WHAT HEMLOG DOES NOT DO
• No automatic measuring from photos. Hemlog records what you did; it does not estimate.
• No tax calculation. What it prints is a receipt for an item taken in, not an invoice.
• No database of brands or model numbers. The brand field is free text.
• No sharing between shops.
