Cats are not small dogs. Dogs lose weight on an activity-scaled share of their current energy needs; cats are dosed on ideal body weight at a fixed rate, with a hard floor the app will not go below - because cutting a cat's calories too fast can trigger fatty liver disease, which is life-threatening and develops within days. Choose dog or cat when you add a pet and the whole plan follows.

Start from a calorie target built on your pet's weight, body condition score, age, neuter status and activity level. Each week, confirmed meals and weigh-ins refine it - no guesswork, no crash diets.
PORTIONS IN GRAMS
The portion calculator turns the day's calories into grams of the food actually in your cupboard. Feeding kibble and wet food together? The mixed feeding planner splits the day across both and returns the amount for each.
TREATS ARE THE PROBLEM
Treats are where most feeding plans quietly fail. A treat budget caps extras at a safe share of the day, and every treat you log comes straight off what is left.
SAFE BY DESIGN
Losing weight faster is not better. If the trend gets steep, or meals are repeatedly refused, the app stops lowering the target and tells you to speak to your veterinarian. Weight-loss targets are calculated from ideal weight and never fall below a safe floor.

Cats on a weight-loss plan start right at their safety floor, and the weekly review used to shave 5% off it anyway - the floor it checked was the one for dogs. It now uses the cat's own floor, so a plateau can no longer push a cat below the level that risks fatty liver disease.
