Unarchiver for tar, gz & more

Only for Mac

Unpack anything — 7z, ZIP, RAR, TAR and more — and pack what you need, with passwords and split volumes handled properly. Native, private, offline Drop a file on the window and Archiver takes it from there — 7z, ZIP, RAR, TAR, GZ, BZ2, XZ, ZSTD, WIM, ISO, DMG, CAB, LZH, ARJ, CPIO, RPM, DEB and dozens more, including the ones macOS has never known what to do with. One window, one drop, and the thing is open. LOOK BEFORE YOU UNPACK The moment an archive lands in the window, Archiver reads it and shows you what's inside: every file with its real icon, how many there are, and how much they add up to. You decide whether it's worth extracting before a single byte hits your disk. If the archive turns out to be encrypted, you're asked for the password then and there — not after a failed attempt. SPLIT ARCHIVES, JOINED FOR YOU Files that arrive as .001, .002, .003 — or part1.rar, part2.rar, or the old .z01 and .r00 numbering — are one archive pretending to be several. Hand Archiver any piece of the set and it finds the rest, counts the volumes, and unpacks the whole thing as a single archive. If a volume is missing, it says which one, instead of failing halfway through with an error you have to decode. If the other pieces sit in a folder the app hasn't been given access to, one button grants it. No renaming, no concatenating in Terminal, no downloading a second app just to glue files together. ARCHIVES YOU CAN MAKE Create 7z, ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ, TAR.BZ2, TAR.XZ and WIM from any mix of files and folders. Four compression levels, described in plain language rather than numbers: None when you only want things bundled and speed is everything, Fast, Normal, or Maximum when the archive has to travel and every megabyte counts. Name the archive and choose where it goes before it's built — it isn't dumped next to the originals unless that's what you want. PASSWORDS, BOTH WAYS Open password-protected 7z and ZIP archives, and put a password on the ones you create. Type it twice, so a typo can't lock you out of your own archive. With 7z, the file list is encrypted along with the contents. Someone without the password can't even see what's inside — not the file names, not the folder structure, nothing. A password-protected ZIP hides the contents but still shows the names, which is worth knowing before you pick a format. WHERE THINGS LAND Extracted files go into a folder of their own by default, so a badly packed archive can't scatter two hundred files across your Desktop. Turn that off when you don't want it. When the job finishes, the result is revealed in the Finder, ready to use. BUILT FOR macOS A native app, not a web page in a window: a real toolbar, real keyboard shortcuts, light and dark mode, and a universal build that runs at full speed on Apple silicon and Intel. Big archives show real progress and can be cancelled — and a cancelled job cleans up the half-written file it leaves behind. The app is sandboxed. It only ever touches the files and folders you hand it, and macOS enforces that, not just our good intentions. NOTHING LEAVES YOUR MAC Every archive is opened, listed and written on your own machine. No account, no sign-in, no upload, no tracking, no analytics, no subscription nagging. Works exactly the same offline. Note: RAR archives can be opened but not created — the RAR compression format is proprietary and only its own vendor's software can write it. Everything else here can be both read and written.
