Drag in your files and rename them all at once — and behind that, a real media metadata manager for the edit suite.
MetaRenamer started as "drop files in, rename in bulk." It has grown into something editors and assistant editors can actually use for metadata work too: an Avid-style Bin table, real camera technical metadata, logging fields, and two-way ALE / FCPXML / EDL exchange with Avid, Premiere Pro, and DaVinci Resolve. Rename a folder of screenshots, or wrangle a card of RED / MXF footage and build a logging sheet — same app.
**Batch renaming**
• Drag and drop — mix files from any folders, you're not limited to one directory
• Live preview — see the full "old → new" list before anything changes
• Visual rules: prefix, suffix, sequential numbering (including "renumber existing" —
replaces a number already in the name), find & replace (plain text or regex),
delete before/after a marker, truncate, case, whitespace, insert capture/creation date
• One-by-one mode — Return renames and jumps to the next; whole folders can be renamed too
• Presets, drag-to-reorder, undo (⌘Z), and one-click "restore all to original names"
• Folder watch — new files are renamed automatically by your current rules
• Bilingual interface (English / 中文)
**Professional metadata (Metadata tab)**
• **Avid-style Bin table** — every file as a row, edit cells directly, batch input,
fill down, copy/paste whole columns, checkbox fields, and its own metadata undo (⌘⇧Z)
• **Real technical metadata**, read from the file itself: resolution, frame rate, codec,
video bit depth, color space (including HLG/PQ HDR), audio sample rate/bit depth/
channels, start timecode — including **MXF**, which AVFoundation can't even open;
MetaRenamer parses the SMPTE header natively
• **Logging fields**: Scene / Shot / Take / Reel / Camera Roll / Sound Roll / Circle /
Good and more, exported to ALE / FCPXML for your NLE to read directly
• **Media Drive mode** — browse a whole media card like Avid's Source Browser,
recognizing RED (.r3d), ARRIRAW, Blackmagic RAW, Canon RAW, DPX/OpenEXR and more;
image sequences and RED spanned clips collapse into a single clip automatically
• **Clip Name** — shows as the clip's display name in Avid / Premiere / Resolve
without ever renaming the file on disk
• Import/export **CSV, ALE (Avid), FCPXML, EDL** — round-trips with your NLE, never
touches the source file
• The Editor and the Bin table share one dataset — edit either, see it in both
• Edit and write back real image/PDF/video metadata (capture date, author, copyright,
keywords, GPS…)
• On-device AI tools (Apple Intelligence, no network): name files from their content,
auto-classify into folders, translate a column
**Built to be safe**
File extensions are preserved by default. Colliding or existing target names are
skipped with a warning — your files are never overwritten. Both renames and metadata
edits are undoable. Logging/custom metadata fields are export-only and are never
written into the source file.

The free version fully covers batch and one-by-one renaming, plus basic metadata
(title, author, date, keywords, city, country, GPS, clip name) and CSV import/export.
