Not "about twenty minutes." Not "be careful." An actual number, for your skin, in today's UV — and a timer that stops you before you burn.
Tan Buddy reads the live UV index exactly where you are, works out how much ultraviolet your skin can absorb before it burns, and turns that into one honest figure: how long you can lie out right now.
WHAT IT ACTUALLY ANSWERS
• How long to tan in UV 7 — or UV 3, or UV 9. The answer is completely different in each, and Tan Buddy does the maths fresh every time you open it.
• The best time to tan today. Not the peak — the shoulder of the curve, strong enough to build colour without standing in the harshest hour of the day.
• How long to tan on each side. Your phone buzzes when it's time to flip, so both sides get the same dose and your tan comes out even.
• How to tan without burning, for your skin — not an average one. Pale freckled skin and olive skin get completely different numbers.
• Whether today is even worth it. Some days it isn't, and Tan Buddy says so.
A TAN TIMER THAT KNOWS WHEN TO STOP
Start a session and Tan Buddy counts the ultraviolet dose your skin is really absorbing, minute by minute, against your own burn threshold. Not a countdown you set yourself — a live measurement of how much sun you have actually taken.
Put the phone face-down on the towel. It buzzes to flip, buzzes again when sunscreen is due, and says plainly when you have had enough. The Lock Screen and Dynamic Island keep the timer visible without unlocking anything.
BUILT ON REAL SUN SCIENCE
Every number comes from one measurement: the erythemal UV dose your skin absorbs, in Standard Erythema Doses. Your Fitzpatrick skin type sets how much you can take before burning. Your existing tan raises it. Sunscreen raises it further — but honestly: SPF 30, applied the way people actually apply it, behaves like about 5x more time, not 30x. Tan Buddy uses the real figure, not the label.
Reflection off sand, water and snow is counted. So is altitude, and photosensitive medication — which can halve your limit without warning.
YOUR TANNING PLAN, DAY BY DAY
Tell Tan Buddy the colour you want and how fast, and it builds a ladder of doses to fit the days you have — with rest days, because skin needs 36 to 48 hours to repair between sessions. It says straight out if your plan is too short for the tan you asked for.
