Press a hotkey and type — or hold a key and talk. Your thought lands on the desktop, styled so natively it looks printed into the wallpaper. No accounts, no cloud. Your desktop is your notepad. Press a hotkey anywhere, type a thought, and it pins itself to your wallpaper — not a floating window, not a widget. Notes render as adaptive ink above your wallpaper and beneath every app window, styled so natively they look printed into the background. INK THAT READS THE WALLPAPER Every note samples the image beneath it and picks the lightest treatment that stays readable: plain tinted ink on calm things get busy, and a frosted pill only as a last resort. Drag a note across the screen and watch it re-style live. CAPTURE AT THE SPEED OF THOUGHT • Option-Space (configurable) opens the capture bar from any app • Smart placement finds the calmest open region — and avoids your icons • Hold a hotkey and dictate; speech is transcribed entirely on-device • Pin the clipboard straight to the desktop with one hotkey MORE THAN PLAIN TEXT • Write "- [ ] buy milk" for checkboxes you can tick on the wallpaper — or just head the note "todo" and every line below becomes one • Flag a note with !!! or give it a date — it warms up as the deadline nears and turns red when it's overdue • Mark a checklist "Repeats daily" and it empties itself every morning; tick every box on an ordinary one and it files itself away • Give a note an expiry — the gate code removes itself when it's stale • Write "dentist friday 3pm" and hand it to Apple Reminders in one tap; the note shows the time so you know it's scheduled • Sweep the desktop clean anytime; notes archive to dated Markdown files YOUR NOTES ARE JUST FILES Every note is a plain Markdown file in a folder you choose. No database, no account, no sync service to trust. Open them in any editor — or never think about them at all. PRIVATE BY ARCHITECTURE BackdropInk has no network access. No analytics, no telemetry, no tracking. It reads only your wallpaper image and your notes folder. Nothing ever leaves your Mac. Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

Notes now adapt on the wallpaper most Macs ship with. • On the built-in Sonoma wallpaper — and any other choice macOS reports only as "the default" — notes used to fall back to a fixed style. They now read the wallpaper macOS has actually set and adapt to it. The App Store build asks once for the folder where macOS keeps that record: Settings → General → Wallpaper, or the menu bar item that appears while such a wallpaper is set. • New App Store screenshots, shot on that very wallpaper. Notes are still plain Markdown files, and nothing has ever left your Mac.
