Drawing a black rectangle over a PDF does not remove the text underneath. The page looks handled, but copying from it returns the original value. It happens repeatedly in court filings and public records, and the person who made the file usually never finds out.
GarimPack is a redaction tool for PDFs and document photos. It finds personal data, masks or removes whatever you choose, and rebuilds a clean copy — your original is never touched.
What makes it different is that it checks, twice. Opening a document shows you a scan report before it shows you an editor, and your exported file is checked again before you save.
WHAT IT CHECKS
• Failed redactions — values covered on screen but still in the text
• Extractable candidates — numbers and addresses that copy straight out
• Hidden document data — metadata, annotations, form values, attachments, scripts
• Not determined — pages and items it could not check
Failed redactions are found by drawing each page, reading it back, and comparing that against the text layer. When a page cannot be read properly, GarimPack does not say it is clean. It reports the page as not determined. Nothing unchecked is shown as checked.
CHECK DOCUMENTS YOU RECEIVED
Not just your own files. Open a PDF someone sent you and see what is still in it. You can run the check and close the document without changing anything.
IT REMOVES. IT DOES NOT JUST COVER.
This is the other half of the app. GarimPack never handles a value by drawing a shape over it, because that is the failure it was built to catch.
• Redact — the value is taken out of the exported file, not hidden behind a box
• Mask — only the part you choose survives, as in j•••••@example.com. The exported file contains the masked form; the original value is not in it
• Ignore — leave it exactly as it is
• Manual regions — mark anything the scan did not find, and choose how it is handled
Your original file is never overwritten and never edited in place. GarimPack rebuilds a separate PDF from scratch and strips hidden document data on the way out.
THEN IT CHECKS ITS OWN WORK
After writing the new file, GarimPack reopens it and scans it again. Pages that were redrawn are read back as images, so a box placed in the wrong spot is caught too. The same failure this app finds in other people's documents is the one it tests its own output for, and it tells you the result before you save.
WHAT IT LOOKS FOR
Social Security numbers, tax and insurance IDs, passport and driver licence numbers, bank accounts, IBANs, payment cards, phone numbers, and email addresses. Format, checksum, and surrounding context inform the confidence shown. Includes identifier rules for the United States, Korea, Japan, Germany, and France.
Detection is a review aid. You decide every change before export.
