Updates to the playing queue Add a track while the music is running, reorder the queue, jump back a song. The queue keeps up with whatever order you put it in, straight through the end of every track. Your library opens instantly The app keeps your library ready and asks your server whether anything has changed, so even fifteen thousand tracks open in a moment. Add new music to your server and it is there on your next visit, with nothing to press. It remembers where you were Your library and your speaker reconnect on their own, in the background, in a fraction of a second. Pause picks up exactly where you stopped. Your music stays where you put it Playback stays on the gear you chose. The phone speaker takes over only when you pick it yourself, or when no library is set up at all. Browse the way you want The A-Z bar and the most-played and least-played sorting now work for songs and artists as well as albums, always on whatever you are looking at. Artists can be shown as artwork or as a list, and "Fresh on the shelf" opens everything your server has filed as recent. Easier on the eyes Larger text throughout, following Apple's own sizing. Every device carries its own icon — a library, a network player, AirPlay, your phone — and whatever you are connected to is marked in colour. Swipe a device to the left to remove it.

Now on iPad Song in the Air runs on iPad, upright and sideways. The cover gets the room a big screen gives it, and the player lays itself out for the size in your hands. Settings, rebuilt Everything has a place now: Home screen, Playback, Appearance, Help. Shorter lists, clearer names, and Reset sits on its own page so nothing happens by accident. Now Playing display, out in the open Like a record sleeve propped up against the speaker — the cover fills a screen at your stereo while your phone stays free to dig for the next one. It moved to the first page of Settings with a switch, instead of hiding in a submenu. Details The player centres itself on tall screens. Recently played Home now shows the last songs you listened to, four at a time. Swipe right for more. Tap one to pick up where you left off, or + to play it next. Find an album faster An A–Z strip above the album list, with # for numbers and symbols. Sort by most played or least played — and the layout switch now sits on the same row, so nothing pushes your albums down the screen. Reorder by dragging Drag the handle, or press and hold a track, to move it in the queue. Swipe left to delete. The same drag works for the order of the rows on Home. The up and down arrows are gone. A second screen Turn a tablet or laptop into a now-playing display. Open one address in its browser — nothing to install — and see the current cover, title and format across the room. Four artwork views, light or dark, and playback controls if you want them. Fixed Playback on the phone no longer stops when the screen goes dark, and a track no longer starts over when you wake it. The phone now hands itself the next track the way a network player does. Network players continue to the next track instead of stopping after each one. The library remembers where you were — going back from an album, or leaving for Settings, Mixtapes or Home and returning. Tapping Library again takes you back to the start, the way you would expect. Tapping the album, artist or year in the player opens exactly that, instead of your whole library. "See all" under a row shows that row. The black theme is now black everywhere, including the full-screen player. Artist details no longer hide their last lines behind the playback bar.
