Mental Rotation Spatial Test

Build the skill that transfers

Twelve spatial puzzle drills, each with a taught strategy. Mental rotation, folding, cross-sections, gears — the one skill where training demonstrably transfers. Spatial thinking is a skill. Build yours. Most brain training can't honestly promise improvement. Spatial reasoning is the exception: Uttal's meta-analysis of 217 studies found that spatial training produces durable gains that transfer to new spatial tasks (effect size g ≈ 0.47). Hone Spatial is built on that evidence — and on its other finding, that teaching strategy is a large part of the effect. Every unit leads with technique, then drills it. THE TWELVE PUZZLES • Block rotation: same shape rotated, or its mirror twin? The classic Shepard–Metzler task. • Flat rotation: the same question on 2D shapes, where flips are the trap. • Paper folding: fold, punch, unfold — where are the holes? • Cube nets: which cube does this net fold into? • Cross-sections: slice a solid — what shape is the cut? • Views: which is this figure's top view? Its front view? • Block counting: hidden cubes must be there; nothing floats. • Exposed faces: six, minus the neighbours, minus the ground. • Gear trains: which way does the last gear turn, and how fast? • Pulleys: count the rope segments — that IS the mechanical advantage. • Viewpoints: stand at the arrow; what order do the objects appear? • Hidden figures: find the simple shape camouflaged in the busy drawing. STRATEGY FIRST Each family comes with the technique that actually solves it, taught with worked examples: holistic rotation, the chirality check (a mirrored figure can NEVER be rotated into its twin), the cube-net rules, folding backwards, the gear rules, the pulley rope-segment rule, sketching, and knowing when verbal encoding fails. YOUR OWN NUMBERS Your mental rotation rate in degrees per second, your mirror-catch accuracy, your accuracy by unit, your solve times — measured from your own answers, never invented. TEST PREPARATION, HONESTLY Gears, pulleys and rotation are a standing section of the ASVAB and most mechanical-aptitude batteries; the folding and rotation tasks are staples of spatial-ability tests generally. Practising here is practising that actual content. Hone Spatial is not an IQ test, produces no intelligence score, and never diagnoses anything. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. No analytics. No tracking. Everything stays on your device; export or erase it all from Settings at any time. ADAPTIVE, GENERATED, FAIR Every puzzle is generated fresh from a seed with a constructed answer key — the correct answer is the actual unfolding, the actual rotation, the actual count — and each drill holds its own level, stepped from your recent scores. Guessing floors far below the promotion bar: random tapping never levels up. SUBSCRIPTION Practice and lesson texts require a Hone Spatial Pro subscription (monthly or yearly), with a free trial for eligible new subscribers. Your history and every measurement stay readable forever, subscription or not.
