iPhone
Trace is a camera for photographing the same subject consistently over weeks and months — portraits, progress photos, fittings, growth, recovery. Line up today's shot with the last one, match the light, and build a record where every frame belongs to the same series.
THE REFERENCE SYSTEM
- Ghost overlay: a chosen reference photo floats over the live view at adjustable opacity, so you can align pose and framing exactly.
- Reference library: organize reference sets in folders, import from Photos, and build a set per lens.
- Wayfinder: Trace remembers the tilt, direction, and position a reference was shot from, and guides you back — tilt up 3°, turn right, step left.
- Full-screen compare: reference, live view, and last capture side by side while you shoot.
THREE LENSES, ONE PRESS
On iPhones with a triple camera, one shutter press captures ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto together — the same instant from three framings. Frame guides show exactly what each lens will capture. Choose any subset of lenses. (On other iPhones, Trace works as a single-lens reference camera.)
CONSISTENT SETTINGS
- Presets restore your exposure, white balance, zoom, and processing in one tap (starter presets for window light, overcast, golden hour, and more). In Single Lens mode, white balance can be fully locked for exact skin-tone consistency.
- A two-axis level with portrait/landscape modes keeps every shot square.
- Timer and interval shooting with audible or haptic cues.
A PRIVATE LIBRARY
Photos live inside Trace first, organized by day and by project. Swipe through a fast review queue — keep, favorite, or delete with a flick, with undo. Compare any capture against its reference, then export what you choose to Apple Photos, with full metadata, exactly like the built-in camera.
PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION
No accounts, no analytics, no servers — Trace contains no networking code at all, and its build system enforces that. Photos stay on your iPhone until you export or share them (or include them in your own device backup, which you control). Location tagging is optional, and shared photos have location stripped by default.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
• Photo stamps: burn the capture date and time, or GPS coordinates, into photos you export or share (Settings › Timestamp on photos / Coordinates on photos). Originals in Trace stay untouched, and stamps use each photo's recorded data — including photos taken before this update.
• A bigger shutter target, and the lens-count badge moved away from the shutter so a capture tap can't miss.
• The shutter flash now fires the instant the shot is taken, so captures feel immediate.
• Accurate burst-stop counts, faster launch, and other fixes.
