Cutvey Meter
Color Meter and Sun Tracker
Free · In‑App Purchases
A color meter and sun tracker in your camera. Kelvin and tint off a gray card, the ND for your rig, the sun's path over the live view. One purchase, yours for good.
Cutvey Meter is a color and light meter that reads through your camera. Point it at a gray card and it gives you the color temperature in kelvin, the tint, and the exposure, live, in one card under your thumb. Press the sun button and the sun's path is drawn over the same picture. Made for gaffers, cinematographers and anyone who has to match one light to another.
KELVIN, TINT AND LUX, LIVE
The viewfinder fills the screen and the reading sits in a glass card at the bottom: kelvin and tint from the camera's own white balance or from a gray card filling the frame, one tap apart, with lux and EV alongside. A band on the kelvin scale shows how much the reading is still moving, so you know when it has settled.
MATCH ONE LIGHT TO ANOTHER
Pin a source with REF, point at the second one, and the card shows both readings, the difference in kelvin and in mired, and the gel that closes the gap, with what it leaves over. Not "these are 1,400 K apart" but "half CTO, plus 18 mired".
THE ND FOR THE RIG YOU ARE ON
The strip under the reading carries a live ND recommendation for your rig: ISO, stop, shutter and frame rate. Tap it to solve for any one of the four instead, and it tells you how far off you still are. Save a rig as your default and every job starts from it.
IT TELLS YOU WHEN NOT TO TRUST IT
HIGH, MEDIUM and LOW say how settled the reading is. DIFFICULT SOURCE means the light is spiky, the kind of cheap LED or fluorescent no camera can pin down. Waiting will not help, and the app says so instead of showing a confident wrong number.
SEE WHERE THE SUN WILL BE
The sun tracker keeps the camera exactly where it is and lays the sun's path over the live view, with hour markers, a compass ribbon and the horizon. Sunrise, solar noon and sunset come with their bearings. Golden hour and blue hour are tabled for today and up to two other dates. Drag the scrubber and the sun walks its path, so you can see the four o'clock light while you are standing on the location.
EVERY READING KEEPS ITS FRAME
LOG saves the reading with the frame you were pointing at. They collect as a contact sheet, newest first. Compare any two in mired, share one with its frame, and every reading remembers the device, the lens, the exposure and the calibration you had on.
CALIBRATE IT TO YOUR METER
Measure one light with both instruments and dial the difference onto that lens. Each lens keeps its own temperature and tint offset, and one calibration holds from warm to cool. Logged readings stay uncorrected, so a calibration you later change never rewrites what you measured.
IN YOUR UNITS
ND as density, stops or factor. T-stop or f-stop. Shutter as an angle or a speed. Times on a 12 or 24-hour clock, light in lux or foot-candles. None of it changes what gets logged.
ON IPAD AS WELL
The picture takes the whole display and the instrument stands beside it. Same meter, same numbers, same library.
WHAT IT IS NOT
This is a camera used as a meter, not a spectrometer. For continuous sources it sits within a few mired of a reference meter; for spiky ones it says so. The lux figure is worked out from exposure, not measured by an incident cell, and the plus green and minus green side of a gel answer is a rough hint, and it says so.

• SUN works without a compass: point the camera at the sun once and the sun path lines up.
• Hold LOG to measure from RAW, and the reading is saved to your library.
• A new Liquid Glass look, and a cleaner layout on iPad.
• If a reading can't be saved, the app keeps it, tries again, and tells you the reason.
• Sign-in fixes, including codes typed with Arabic or Persian digits.
