Governor: Free Republic

Sink pirates. Found colonies.

$2.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

A real-time naval strategy game with no ads, no purchases and no internet. Fifteen hulls, five pirate flagships, one kraken, and a term of office to lose. You are the Governor. The Republic handed you a charter, one frigate and a stretch of open water crawling with pirates. What you make of it is your term of office. Governor: Free Republic is a real-time naval strategy game. Found settlements on the islands, raise a fleet in their shipyards, and sink the raiders that come for your ports, then sail through the wreckage and bank the plunder before it drifts away. TAKE THE SEA Tap a ship and drag its course. Tap a pirate to lock on. Idle ships engage anything that comes near, so a patrol left in the right place is worth a hundred taps later. Fifteen Republic hulls, from a schooner that carries two crates to a Leviathan you are permitted exactly one of. HOLD THE COAST Colony ships carry settlers to empty islands. Every island has a character (fertile, forested, pastoral, quarry) and takes only the buildings that suit it: granaries, sawmills, ranches, masonry, and fortifications that grow into a real wall. One Governor's Mansion per empire, if you ever afford it. WHAT IS OUT THERE Thirteen classes of pirate, escalating wave by wave. Five named flagships sail under captains out of the history books: the Whydah, the Royal Fortune, Queen Anne's Revenge, the Adventure Galley and the Fancy, each carrying a bounty worth the risk. And out in deep water, a kraken that hunts pirate and Republic alike. LETTERS OF MARQUE Draft your term before you sail. Boons cost points and burdens pay for them: take Veteran Crews and Long Guns, and answer for it with Crown Tariffs and Wanted Posters. Every run is a different bargain. THE TERM ENDS Threat climbs with your treasury, your fleet and the clock. Ports are struck, captured, and taken back again. When the last settlement is overrun your term is over, the pirates write the epitaph, and you begin another one. DRAWN IN CODE Every ship, island, building and icon is pixel art generated on the device at runtime, down to the app icon. So is the audio: the cannon fire, the bosun's whistle, the sea and the shanty are synthesised as the game runs, with no sound files shipped at all. • One player, on your device • No internet connection needed, ever • No ads, no in-app purchases, no accounts, nothing collected • Autosaves every twenty seconds. Put it down mid-broadside • iPhone and iPad, portrait or landscape The water does not care that you were appointed.
