A beat machine where every sample is a real bird.
BirDJ puts fifteen pads under your fingers and a real birdsong on each one: robins, wrens, loons, magpies, a whip-crack whipbird, an owl for the low end. Tap a pad and the bird calls. Hold it and the call loops. Drag up or down while you hold and the pitch bends, so a goldfinch turns into a bassline. Multitouch, so use every finger you have.
MAKE IT YOURS
Tap Edit, then any pad, to choose which of the 46 birds sits there. Preview each one first, and read about it on The Sunrise if you get curious.
PLAY AN ACTUAL TUNE
Tune any pad up or down in semitones, or lay one bird across all fifteen pads as a Major, Minor, Pentatonic or Chromatic scale. Now the grid is an instrument: low on the left, high on the right, every pad in tune. That is how the demo songs are made, and now you can make them too.
RECORD, SAVE, SHARE
Hit record, play, stop. Your beat is saved and plays back exactly as you played it. Then:
- Send a link. It replays your beat in anyone's browser, no app needed.
- Save as audio. A WAV file you can make your ringtone or your alarm.
- Save as video. A square clip of the pads lighting up, ready to post.

Songs has a few beats to show what the birds can do, from a dawn chorus to a riff you will recognise, each one traded across several birds.

Big pads, landscape or portrait, and a hardware keyboard plays the grid (Q W E R T / A S D F G / Z X C V B).
