iPhone

Point your iPhone at the sky and see where the sun and the moon will be at any hour of any day. Today at your location is free, in all four views. Stand where you will shoot, point your iPhone at the sky, and see exactly where the sun and the moon will be at any hour of any day. All of it computed on the device, with no account, and every calculation offline. FOUR VIEWS, ONE PLACE AND DATE Sky. The background is a readout, not decoration: it comes from the real solar altitude at that moment, so night is navy, twilight violet, noon pale blue. The day's arc crosses it with the sun and the moon at their true positions. Drag the time scrubber and the whole screen moves through the day, with azimuth, altitude, the next event and its countdown below. AR. Hold the phone up and the sun and moon paths lie over the live camera, marked hour by hour, with the summer solstice, winter solstice and equinox paths behind them. In August you can see where the light falls in December. When the sky is dark enough, the galactic plane of the Milky Way joins them. A chip in the corner gives the heading accuracy in degrees and turns amber when the compass needs calibrating. Naming that uncertainty is part of the tool. Map. Sunrise and sunset direction rays from the pin, the moon's rays beside them, the day's path over the terrain, and the shadow of an object whose height you set. Tap anywhere and every other view follows. Data. All three twilights: civil, nautical, astronomical. Solar noon, day length, and how much the day grew or shrank since yesterday. A moon phase calendar. Eclipses with the circumstances at your own spot. The altitude curve across the year. Export to CSV or image. WHAT IS FREE Today, where you are standing, in all four views, free forever. Sun position and compass, the AR sun path, sunrise and sunset, all three twilights, golden hour and blue hour, solar noon, day length, shadow length, and today's UV index and irradiance as a clear sky model. SUNLIT PRO, ONE PAYMENT Not a subscription. Nothing renews. • Any date, past or future • Saved places and any point on earth • The moon: phase, path, rise, set, distance, calendar • The Milky Way: galactic centre, galactic plane, and a visibility window, with the limiting factor named when there is none • Annual path overlay with solstice and equinox curves • Your real horizon: sweep the skyline with the camera, get the sunrise and sunset you will actually see, and the periods behind the ridge • Eclipses with local circumstances • Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets • Event notifications • CSV and image export HOW ACCURATE Solar position comes from the NREL Solar Position Algorithm, accurate to 0.0003 degrees. Lunar position comes from a truncated ELP-2000/82 series, accurate to about 10 arcseconds. Rise, set and twilight times come from a numerical solver rather than an interpolation, so high latitudes and grazing events come out right, and polar day and polar night are reported as such rather than an invented time. UV index and irradiance are CLEAR SKY MODELS. They are computed from geometry and an ozone climatology, not measured, and carry that label everywhere they appear. Cloud changes what actually reaches you. PRIVACY No account and no email address. Nothing you enter leaves your iPhone, and all the astronomy runs with no connection at all. This version shows advertising, which Google's ad kit loads over the network, and Sunlit Pro removes it. The Map view loads Apple Maps tiles, which need a connection like any map; the rays and paths on top do not. City data from GeoNames, licensed CC BY 4.0. • This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.

This version shows advertising: one banner, at the foot of the Data tab, and nowhere else. There is no full screen ad anywhere in Sunlit. The sky view, the camera, the map and the time scrubber are never interrupted. Sunlit Pro removes the banner. It is still one payment, not a subscription. The advertising privacy choices sit at the foot of the Data tab, next to the banner, so the consent can be changed at any time.
