A volunteer department has nobody sitting at the station. When the call comes in, its members are at home, at work, at the kids' game, or asleep. For fifty years the thing that reached them was a pager on the nightstand.
This is that pager, on the phone already in your pocket — and it carries everything the pager never could.

Snooze alerts: in Settings you can now snooze dispatch alerts for 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8 hours, or set quiet hours, for example weekdays 9 to 5. Calls still come in and show on your screen, just without a sound. A banner on the main screen shows while alerts are snoozed, with a button to turn them back on.
Departments you switch off in Settings are now shown as "off duty", so it is clear you will not be paged for them until you turn them back on.
The sign-in screen now explains officer codes: another way to sign in, which a department officer can give you, or use to sign in an apparatus device that has no e-mail address.
