Raindex: Rain Totals & Gauge
Rainfall History & Alerts
Free · In‑App Purchases
Rain totals for the places you actually care about — your yard, a field, a job site. NOAA radar and gauge data for the 1 km cell each one sits in, hour by hour.
How much rain actually fell on your ground?
Raindex measures rainfall for the places you save — your yard, a field, a job site — and keeps the record. It is not a forecast app. It tells you what already fell.
Rainfall comes from NOAA's MRMS network, which combines weather radar with the national rain-gauge network and estimates precipitation for every 1 km cell across the United States, every hour. Raindex reads the cell your place sits in, so two fields a mile apart can, and often do, show different totals.
WHAT YOU GET
• Rain totals over the last 1 and 24 hours, and over 3, 6, 12, 48 and 72 hours on a paid plan
• A day-by-day history: saving a place fills in the last 7 days, or 30 on a paid plan, and every day after that is kept
• Hour-by-hour detail for any day in that history
• A rainfall map across your saved places, with each place's total on its pin
• Threshold alerts — choose an amount and a window, and Raindex pushes when a place crosses it
• A next-24-hour and 3-day rain outlook, on a paid plan — the NOAA/NWS gridded forecast in the US, Environment and Climate Change Canada's in Canada
• NWS flood watches and warnings, and Environment Canada's rainfall warnings, shown for your places on every plan — displayed in the app, never pushed
• CSV export of a place's history, on Pro
• The app in English, German, French or Spanish
HONEST ABOUT WHAT IT KNOWS
Every reading says where it came from: gauge-adjusted, radar only, or provisional and still being revised as gauge data arrives.
An hour we could not read is shown as missing, never as zero — so an outage can never look like a dry day on your calendar. A day with an unread hour gets no total at all, rather than a partial one that would quietly understate the rain.
These are estimates for a one-kilometre cell, not a gauge standing on your property, and Raindex says so on the reading itself rather than in a support article.
COVERAGE
Raindex covers the United States — the lower 48, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands — and southern Canada, where readings are radar estimates only (NOAA's gauge correction uses US gauges). Places in other countries are not covered yet. A place outside coverage is told so, rather than shown a number for somebody else's rain.
Snowfall is reported as liquid equivalent, not snow depth, and labelled as such.
PLANS
Free — 1 place, 1- and 24-hour totals, 7 days filled in on saving, threshold alerts, flood notices.
Standard — 15 places, every time window, 30 days filled in on saving, and the forecast. $4.99 per month or $19.99 per year.
Pro — 30 places, up to 10 alert levels per place, and CSV export. $9.99 per month or $39.99 per year.

• Raindex now speaks German, French and Spanish. It follows your iPhone's language, or pick one in the app's Settings.
• Alert notifications arrive in the app's language, with numbers and dates in your region's format.
• More coverage: Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, and southern Canada (radar only).
• For places in Canada: the rain forecast and rainfall warnings from Environment and Climate Change Canada.
• Every number names its source. New: an "Includes an estimate" note for hours with no radar data.
• A place outside coverage is told so when you save it.
• Fixes and polish.
